Heard these were brought into effect for Glastonbury. I saw reports of people being pulled over on the way there and being tested for various substances.
This could cause a lot of problems for free parties as they are generally in locations which are not accessible by public transport or by foot/bicycle.
Obviously the way to combat this is don’t take anything and drive afterwards, but I know a lot of people who do take drugs at a party and then drive home afterwards, usually after they have had some rest so although the drugs aren’t effecting their ability to drive they may still fail the test.
Does anyone know how these machines work and how sensitive they are? as drugs like cannabis stay in your system for a long time.
Are there any methods to fool the test?
(eg with the breath analyser for drink driving you have the “ol’ 2 pence in ya mouth” trick)
if they are “electronic sniffer dogs” as used outside clubs etc they are unfortunately really sophisticated pieces of kit – like mini spectrometers (the devices used in university labs to check what a chemical is). You just need to pick up a package containing drugs and they can trigger…
I am not aware of any way to defeat them. However they are very expensive (about £25,000-30,000) and not all forces have them. I think the evidence still needs to be backed up by a urine or blood test – but its enough to get you taken down the station and your friends stranded (I think this is what the cops are going for – the inconvenience/scare factor)
