Crystal Meth
Is also known as ice, crystal, glass, crank, yaba in its various forms.
Its chemical name is methamphetamine hydrochloride and in its pure form it is a colourless crystalline solid. [In its most impure form it can be a crumbly brown or off-white crystal structure – this is the version known as crank]
The crystal meth bought on the street may be impure due to bad synthesis or may have been cut with other things to bulk out the quantity.
Effects of methamphetamine
Methamphetamine is a central nervous system stimulant which closely mimics the body’s natural fight-or-flight response to danger or threat.
[increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, constriction of the artery walls, dilation of the bronchial tubes (oncreases oxygen uptake), and increased blood sugar]
Users are more focused, more alert and lose their appetite as well as not noticing fatigue at the lower doses. If a higher dose is taken [especially by smoking] a ‘rush’ or ‘flash’ is experienced which causes intense pleasure but only lasts a few minutes. If it is used regularly the dose required to get the same rush can escalate rapidly.
Other effects of methamphetamine are:
Twitching or jitteryness or restlessness
Dry mouth
Jaw clenching/teeth grinding
Agitation
Repetitive behaviour patterns [like obsessive compulsive behaviour but drug induced]
Diaorrhea
Nausea
Loss of appetite
Insomnia, disturbed sleep patterns
Irritability
Talkativeness
Panic attacks
Dilated pupils
Increased libido [often without erection in males]
Weightloss
Sweating
Visual and auditory hallucinations [hearing and seeing things]
Itching [leads to scratching and welts on the skin]
Shortness of breath
Anxiety
Aggressiveness and violent behaviour
Suspiciousness & paranoia
Overconfidence [false sense of importance and power]
Severe depression, suicidal tendencies
The effects on the body of long term use are:
Psychological addiction
Weight loss
Depression on the come down
Inability to maintain an erection
Very fast loss of teeth due to low saliva production and reduced blood supply to the mouth combined with bad oral hygiene
Psychosis
Poor imminue system function
Anxiety
Chronic fatigue
Emotional mood swings
Kidney and lung damage [can be fatal]
Liver damage
Strokes
Methamphetamine also has a significant risk of overdose due to the ways it can be taken; the symptoms of overdose include:
a sensation that the user’s skin is crawling with bugs [the user may pick at their skin causing sores which become infected due to repeated picking]
Long term cognitive impairment [that means permanent brain damage which alters how you behave/function][symptoms are similar to Parkinson’s disease]
Severe depression
Serious overheating
Convulsions
Delusions and/or hallucinations
Paranoia
Kidney damage[caused by reduced blood supply to the organs]
Comas
Kidney failure
Death due to a heart attack
Death due to burst blood vessels in the brain [stroke]
How methamphetamine is taken
Methamphetamine can be taken in a variety of ways:
Orally, snorting, inhaling the vapourised fumes and intravenously being the most common (anal insertion and insertion into the urethra are also sometimes used).
Methamphetamine bought on the street is usually cut with other substances making the actual strength of the drug unknown until consumed.
A regular users dose of methamphetamine (especially intravenous user) could be fatal to an occassional user so please be very careful if you use it.
If you are going to be taking the drug start with small amounts until you have gauged the strength of the batch you have.
Erowid Methamphetamine Vault : Dosage gives you and idea of the dosages involved in safe use of the drug.
Please be aware that regular use of this drug quickly leads to tolerance and leads to larger doses being required for the same effect and that repeated use of the drug in a day will lead to the loss of the initial euphoric feeling a new user feels.
Some drugs such as MAOI inhibitors have an adverse [bad] reaction with methamphetamine and are very dangerous when taken in conjunction with it.
Also make sure you are aware of the symptoms of overdose so that you know when you have overdone it and may require medical assistance.
Some final cautionary notes
Please be aware that there is a world of difference between what is normally called speed and crystal meth
Sspeed is amphetamine sulphate; crystal meth is methamphetamine.
Tthere have only been 89 recorded deaths from amphetamine sulphate since 1886; i have no idea exactly what the crystal meth figures are but we are talking hundreds.
Here are some user accounts of it for your information:
“The only time i took it i ‘came to’ at about 7 in the morning, covered in body paint, wearing just a pair off cut of denim shorts (don’t know where either the paint or shorts came from, or where my clothes and shoes went) miles from home
I was in a pool hall harassing a Japanese couple to bet £100 i didn’t have on pool”
” Always make an educated choice – know the difference when your buying crack and crystal meths. Also its possible for dealers to pass of crank as strong crack.
Apologies for the scare mongering, however a good friend of mine has relapsed onto this shit and Ive never seen anyone go down so quick – pardon the pun.
I had smoked some a few months ago – unusually strong and kept me awake for ages for only a “pipes” worth – the bloke selling it died from septacemia (Blood poisening) – mainly from doing speedballs – (Crack and smack)”
“London dealers and ravers often claim their base (strong paste-like amfetamine sulphate) is “crystal meth” to make it sound “stronger””
“It just seemed like base but slightly stronger (I think that party went on for two days!). The chap who obtained it (who was one of the most hardcore caners I knew at the time) said he was frightened by its effects and refused to obtain or take any more.”
In an attempt to limit debate over a controversial methamphetamine bill, members of Congress have attached it to legislation renewing the USA-PATRIOT Act, which could pass Congress this weekend. The Drug Policy Alliance fought this bill, now known as the “Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act,” in several committees. Though the bill remains alive, groups working to oppose it have scored several major victories.
Most importantly, the Drug Policy Alliance, Families Against Mandatory Minimums, the Interfaith Drug Policy Initiative and other groups waged a high-profile campaign to remove draconian mandatory minimums from the bill. The original bill would have enacted penalties for methamphetamine that were harsher than those enacted for crack cocaine in the 1980s. Those mandatory minimums were stripped out of the bill in committee. Thousands of Alliance supporters faxed Congress in opposition to the mandatory minimums.
Additionally, a number of good provisions were added in committee. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) added a section that creates a grant program to increase drug treatment for women with children. Congressman Bobby Scott (D-VA) added a section requesting a study on how to enact a treatment-instead-of-incarceration program for federal offenders with substance abuse problems. The Alliance has been working to accomplish both things all year.
Two troubling provisions remain in the bill. One would enact a penalty of up to 20 years for selling or making methamphetamine in a home where a minor resides (even if the minor is not there at the time). This penalty would be on top of the penalties for the underlying offenses, which usually carry harsh mandatory minimums themselves. Though methamphetamine in the presence of children is a serious problem, this provision could devastate families by giving thousands of mothers long prison sentences when other options, such as treatment, are available. If the provision is enacted, many children would be put into foster care at taxpayer expense.
The other troubling provision would require law-abiding Americans to show identification and sign a government log to buy cold medicine. While the Alliance supports many state and federal regulations designed to prevent people from using cold medicine to manufacture methamphetamine, there are concerns about the privacy implications of requiring people to show ID and give their names and addresses to buy Nyquil, Theraflu, Sudafed and dozens of other cold medicines.
It is in the papers a lot recently and I was wondering if any readers could enlighten this uninitiated reader as to the nature of this particular beast. I have never taken it, I don’t think I will, but forewarned is forearmed etc etc. Cheers.
longer lasting and more chance of addiction…
so go easy..
not done it but some stupid boy I know (I mean stupid in a nice(ish) way) says how it makes people kill each other because he read it in the fhm.
They would be simlar both drugs being amphetamine, meth is much stronger. <---> lines like that will do you for hours.
Warning to all drug users and abusers:
Crystal Meth has hit England and is now easier to score than ever before.
Found recently in the Thames Valley area regular users and abusers who freely get it.
After seeing what this can do in other parts of the world I would urge those of you not to try this drug, purely for your own safety and state of mind.
Always make an educated choice – know the difference when your buying crack and crystal meths. Also its possible for dealers to pass of crank as strong crack.

nething considered more damaging than crack has gotta b given a wide birth! wudnt b happy if i started seein this crap ion a regular basis”!
nasty stuff…. worse than speed or base (and even those substances must be treated with respect)
it is definitely not a party drug – avoid it… pushes the body and mind beyond its limits
when that hits the pinhead crew round Reading area its gonna be fucking carnage I reckon – glad I got out of the city
another instance of prohibition leading to worse substances though IMO…
Same as Miss bassets.
Trouble is I think its starting to become popular. I’ve had a few e-mails offering the sale of how to manufacture this drug for $100 USD. With the riosk of blowing myself up by even trying I don’t like the idea of it at all.
I’m surprised that oth9er cities havent started to show the rising use of this nasty drug.
Any reports out there from people? Would be usefull.

it cropped up on the Londonistan rave scene a few years ago; but most ravers I know are understandably and rightly scared of it and won’t touch it with a barge-pole, even the speed freaks!
OTOH I doubt if its the same for the crackheads/thugs though…
I had smoked some a few months ago – unusually strong and kept me awake for ages for only a “pipes” worth – the bloke selling it died from septacemia (Blood poisening) – mainly from doing speedballs – (Crack and smack)
I havent looked in the drugs section for information on this drug..yet, but Im sure its already covered?
Perhaps the american guys on here can assist us with information or even drug information to be used here such as signs of abuse, treatments etc.

not specifically – here are some links though
http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/meth/meth.shtml
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_meth
i will go and find the rest of the info now
Not just – the usuage is starting to spread to “middle england” – it was used by hardcore drug users, in the gay scene and occasionally spotted in the rave scene for a few years. Not many.
My friend in Thailand is hooked on their yabba which is sold in tablet form, this was 5 or 6 years ago, so its use in the UK is very limited.
