anyone got any miricle tips on giving up smoking? I really need to quit, and so far have cut down to smoking about 2 whole cigs a day. Each one i roll, i rip in half, and smoke that, so im only smoking half cigs, 4 half cigs through the day = 2 while ones….but id rather it be none.
Ive quite smoking weed which i thought would be difficult, after smoking it for 8 years 90% of the time, but my body did well, and now the smell of it makes me wretch! Wish this would be the case for cigs…..
dont want to use patches cause im not smoking enough to make them worth it, if i used them id be taking in more nicotine through the patches than i would through what i smoke, plus last time i used them i OD’ and its not a nice experiance!
Weakest patches only give you a tiny bit of nicotine, so you’d prob be ok with them. Don’t keep them on at night though.
That was how I did it (I also kept a calender, and gave myself treats after certain lengths, like 1day, 2days, 3days, 1week, 2weeks etc….Spent most of 3months bubbled, as my favourite treat was usually an e or 2:groucho:)
Also, find a good reason to do it. Makes it much easier (I promised my son on the day he was born that I’d never smoke again. I don’t break promises to him, so always had something to reprogram the craving/habit with)
It’s pretty hard for quite a long time (I had cravings for about 8-9 months every time I saw a cigarette), and you are never really a non smoker, always an ex one (I still get the occasional pang now, and I’ve been quit for nearly 5 years). Never think you can have “just one”. One comes as 20 fags, and it’s a very slippery slope (I tried for most of 8 years before I finally cracked it, and did that several times – either with just the one spliff, or just one to calm my nerves after a really bad day…:bad_idea::bad_idea::bad_idea:)
But it does get easier once you’re over the reprogramming of the habit, and is well worth it once your body sorts itself out, and gets rid of all the tar etc. You do get your sense of smell, and taste back too (which is usually something most smokers don’t believe they’ve lost, but I can promise you they have. A bottle of wine becomes a whole new experience, and a Chinese meal becomes a full on taste explosion. This is why ex smokers put on weight – at least you have the lung capacity to burn it off by dancing though:bounce_fl:bounce_fl:bounce_fl…)
If you need some moral support, either post here, or pm me, and I’ll do my best to provide it (I have a mission – like most ex smokers to turn everybody into non smokers….:bounce_fl:bounce_fl:bounce_fl:bounce_fl:bounce_fl)
So good luck:bigsmile::bigsmile:, and go for it…raaaraaaraaa
Ive been saying it for years but im going to have real go at quitting soon. Been smoking nearly ten years now, had a few rubbish attempts at quitting, never lasts more than 24 hours though im so weak. Stupid thing is I don’t even enjoy smoking, its horrible but still smoke 4 or 5 roll ups a day …..
I gave up after 17 years by using the lozengers (for about 2 weeks), I really rated them cus u could have one just like a fag, unlike the patches that drip feed the hit…worked for me. I dont think its simply the amount you smoke more the realiance and habit, but then everyone is differant. I havent touched the stuff for over 4 years. Gave up all THC related “products” about 4 months ago and still hangin on in there:wink:
nicorette patches an sheer determination….or the chewing gum nicorette stuff…..round our way we have a free organisasion called smokefree they councel you thru it….good luck xxx
i’ve tried quitting 3 times.. 1st time was about 2 weeks and i ended up smoking a ton of green in a pipe and couldn’t funtion
the other two times i lasted 8 months
good luck
I believe that if you want to stop smoking, you have to be 100%
determent to do so,or its not going to work..
Pure willpower is the only way..
Anyone else wanting moral support for giving up, either pm me, or post here…
Like I said – one of my life missions is to help other people quit, and I have (probably) some good advice for the bits where it is really tough, cos I’ve been there and survived.
Just never stop trying to stop… I tried a total of about 12 times (managed to stop for 8 months at one point, but slid back after a spliff weakness moment)
And I promise you will eventually feel the benefits, and they are worth the pain….:bounce_fl:bounce_fl:bounce_fl
Maybe we should start a “Habit kicking” forum….Could be useful…

Sorry it’s late.
Hey good luck man. Be strong and hang on in there.
I read the Allen Carr ‘how to stop smoking permenantly’ book,
I found him and some of the book quite patronising and irritating ……..
but I had to change my attitute towards fags (i.e they do not make me look cool, give me confidence or relieve my stress, and ‘taylor mades’ are not a treat) and I really found the book made me begin to look at fags in a different way,
However I found the biggest motivation was actually reading the book as it took me months!!! as I obviously wasnt ready as I had to smoke over xmas and new year etc and so stopped and started (your meant to keep smoking whilst reading the book so if I never finished it – it was a great excuse to carry on smoking as I hadnt failed)
and when I crave I just think of my long term goal,
(ie what will that one fag do for me? as for me its not just one as I know from experience its all or nothing and if I have one I’ll be back on 40+)
also I cant start smoking cigars (etc) as I’ll end up back on em………(this also from experience ended up on 20 – 30 + cafe creme a day for 2 years)
but one thing is to say ‘I’ve stopped smoking’ not ‘given up’ as when you give something up your making ‘a sacrifice’ and therefore making that thing you’ve ‘given up’ more special
and to use NA/AA phrase – one day or minute at a time (if necessary) helped me
and to remember a craving psychologically and physiologically only lasts 3 minutes according to research
phew!!!
hope that helps!!
You should make yourself busy at all times, try not to look or even touch or smell the smoke of the cigar, your family can be a great help for you, and faith in God will help you quit smoking.

Ahahahahahaha, I wondered when one of your posts was gonna start talking about God! Not knocking anyone’s belief systems here, people have a choice to believe (and smoke) what they like, but I am knocking people who blindly assume that others believe in a god purely because they do. I believe in the flying spaghetti monster, but I don’t assume everyone else does! If you’re gonna post anything more, can you please make a post where you say that ‘drugs are bad, mkay’, cos then you’ll have the complete set!

Steven Hawking explained how God can’t exist. For there to be a grand designer of the universe then there must have been time before the universe was created for the grand designer to exist in. But since there was no time before the big bang this makes it impossible.
But you can believe what you want
Well said that man, well said indeed.
