Giant machine to recreate conditions of big bang
Collider may create miniature black holes

Seems they are a bit unsure exactly what will happen.
Well I can understand why they want to do it. It’s really interesting if you ask me, but i can’t help thinking that they are too eager to find out what’s going to happen without researching the hazzards deep enough just like nanotechnology.
Well sounds amazing to me why not just go for it. who knows what it may unlock or lead to. could be the beginning of a new era of technology.
hmm seems a lot of dollah ( £4.2bn ) to try and create something that will have no practical use.
”Even in my wildest imagination I can’t think of this discovery having a practical application” Professor Engelen .
i think maybe the money could have more pressing needs

Yeah, I thought that. Although if we didn’t strive to understand science we would never advance… tricky one.
I’ve added another option “Waste of Money”
who knows, it could lead to the ability to duplicate material, and may solve things like world hunger.
hmm tricky i find all this sorta stuff really interesting.
its the want to understand the unknown that makes us human, yet maybe it will be our demise?
The sad thing is that if they found out how to create matter only the world leaders would have access to such technology and it would come at a cost. After all, someones got to have control and power haven’t they. :you_crazy
We simply couldn’t have third world countries becoming stable and developing an economy.. it simply wouldn’t do! :hopeless:
true, its a shame really, maybe some good will come of it eventually. Either that or it will blow us all to smithereens. I cant imagine countrys putting that sort of cash into an experiment where there is no beneficial purpose. More of a case of them not telling us something i think.
Oh for sure, it will unlock some secrets that could help propel science forward in to a new age but it’s also a bit like a display of status I reckon. Kinda like the first people to launch a spacecraft or the first country to the moon or the north pole etc.
eg. If you’re not involved then you are not a big player.
Yeah thats sounds quite like it too.
Not Sure, tiz interesting for sure, but thats an awfull lot of money,
when you compare the amount being spent by the government on researching renewable energy (£60 million this year) then 4.2 billion seems like a big fat waste of money
there are much more pressing scientific needs
edit: I had to go and listen to Orbital – ‘you lot’ after reading about that
