  • Hello,

I’m writing a novel which includes a character who is addicted to Heroin and crack cocaine. I have had experience of both, but have never suffered with addiction to heroin, and wondered if anyone here would know about their eating habits.

I know that taking heroin can make you prefer sweet foods over savoury, and many addicts eat junk food rather than nutritious food. Is this because heroin causes them to crave it or simply that often they cannot find time/energy to cook?

Also, how much can they cope with eating? I know it can cause vomiting, and wondered if any foods in particular were easier/harder to keep down?

Any information on experience of eating habits when in the grip of heroin addiction would be helpful. 🙂

    Thank-you

When I was on the smack all i ate was spam for 4 years:yakk:

ah, the wonders of free speech in this country and online

a creative young lady has the entire internet at her command, she goes on to one of the friendliest party/music forums in the world with loads of talented, optimistic, happy people

And she starts off with her first post by asking for free content for yet another novel about junkies, where she can hopefully make her name as a “great writer” whilst increasing the perception that this is a nation of junkie scum

Maybe one day the intelligensia of Faringdon Road will laud her work in the Grauniad whilst the Whitehall workers who read the novel on the Tube are touched by her graphic depiction of the drugs culture and arrange to implement yet more clampdowns and strengthening of the nanny state…

What a wonderful country we live in..

/me goes off to play Land of Hope and Glory on the gramophone

perhaps one of our recovering addicts may have more to add about the thread, but I would say the sweets craving is due to blood sugar imbalances (also caused by use of other substances), and most problematic/addict drug users simply eat whatever stuff they can scrounge or shoplift, when it gets to the point of eating as a matter of survival..

who needs food when u got smnack? i used eat just suggary snacks n fizzy pop. smack makes u crave both. you also chain smokew…

Thank you to those who have answered. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to offend. I don’t think anyone is “junkie scum” and I don’t want to be a “great writer”, I don’t want recognition, or to have some “laud” over my writing; it is simply that I would like to be accurate. I was searching for information and was reccommended to come and ask here, but if it is a problem then please delete this thread. The novel is not “about junkies”, there is one character who is addicted to heroin but she is not part of the main story. I do NOT want to “increase the perception this is a junkie nation” at all, neither do I believe that. If the members on here would rather I did not return then I shall not, but I don’t think it was particularly fair to judge me when you do not know my views, my background, my writing or me. Again, I am sorry for any offence or trouble caused through this question.

this is exactly what our forum, and the wider community here is like. being addicted to opiates is not “part of the main story” of this community (although its unfortunately happened to some of us here ) – the bulk of it is about more positive lifestyles.

it might not seem “fair”, but as this is a site which started out discussing unlicensed rave parties and many other activities in a legal grey area, it came across as you were judging “us” as a easy way of getting info for your project (and presumably disappearing once you had got it) like the rest of the media types who come here every so often.

we get lots of people who sign up here for a variety of reasons, not all of them particularly good. we’ve had the Police, the media, even the Forestry Commission look here for info! Stuff posted on here has been copied and misquoted in newspapers to increase negative perception against the rave scene.

its a shame everyone here has to be so cynical but people have abused our friendliness and trust before, and if you make a first post discussing the most negative aspect of the party scene everyone is bound to suspect you a bit and be less welcoming than normal.

Lots of seemingly friendly, but ambitious and persistent young ladies work for our muck raking tabloids and “investigative media”. First impressions, particularly those of a lady who clearly is articulate, intelligent, knows what she wants and how to get it, make a lot of impact. But if you aren’t that sort of person, and like music and other forms of art/culture why not stick around here and contribute to other threads?

Thank you. I will contribute to other threads. I’m sorry, I didn’t think how it would come across, and I won’t disappear after. I’m not media or police, simply a student at college, and I understand why it would seem untrustworthy to do what I did. Thank you for explaining.

And MrAHC, I might just take you up on that offer. 😉

    your gonna scare her away

I would be more than happy to answer any questions about heroin addiction, eating, or lack of, constipation when doing smack etc

My diary on this forum would give you an idea of how long I have experience of this habit.

Please take a look at my profile and send me an IM/ email or any other way you want to talk.

Thank-you it depends you go though different stages when you start
with heroin you don’t eat much at all. but when you have been on it for
some time you crave for sweet things ice cream chocolat junk food.
but i found after manney years you can eat most things but only small
amounts. the vomiting is only in the start. when you have been on the
gear over a few months the vomiting stops.for some reason i found i could
not eat meat.ther is some addicts that have a normal life if you are only
taking a small amount the same time every day you can have a normal life
but i don’t think there is so manney people like that.
