This whole thing is surreal TBH… took me a while to work out what was going on as usually this is done as a leftie/eco warror “critical mass” protest against car culture…
not sure if any good will come of it, other than the garys realising what the cops can do to stubborn protestors…

I’ve not used one of those for about 6 years, though I do lurk on them, many are dominated by angry blokes what want to ride at 25+ mph everywhere whilst dressed like Bruno and don’t give a fuck about anyone else on the road (including their own safety)
I ride bikes to get places at 12-15 mph wearing normal street clothes. plus I bought a e-bike recently and lots of them “real cyclists” think its cheating, but how many of them are gonna ride 26 miles each way to see friends (instead of just competing with people) every few weeks? (and its uphill all the way from Stowmarket)
what’s an e-bike?
is it like a virtual bike?
or “e-mail a bike”, otherwise known as “boothys facebook habits”?
electro BIKE
those ones where when u get to a certain speed n stop peddling it does it for u
its like polygon window says but in this country the other way round, on a legal one you get assisted up to 15mph (due to EU rules) which might not seem like a lot but its like every hill just isn’t there, or being on a tandem without the extra size and the other person…
although they initially were popular with the older folks they are now increasingly being used by younger people. If you are fit enough to ride 15 miles comfortably it becomes simple to ride 25 or 30 miles..
the bikes are charged up using a power unit which is only the size of a simillar charger for a 1980s laptop and they use only 60W of power to charge in 5 hours..
just had a look. they cost nearly a grand!
i well like the idea though. i wanna get rid of driving tbh, i basically have unless i really cant help it

the really bling ones do but some are a fair bit cheaper, look for Synergie Bikes in Inverkeithing, Scotland…
eventually prices will drop. In the Netherlands more e-bikes are sold than normal ones now, although a decent dutch bike is actually around €1000 new anyway. The Chinese now routinely use e-bikes for daily transport, they are now more common than unpowered pushbikes in cities..
