When you go for a drugs test, sometimes they are not testing for the drug itself in your system, but for the breakdown products, which can stay in your system far longer in some cases.

I was wondering if any legal highs break down into the same breakdown products as illegal drugs, and could thus give a false positive in the drugs test?

Yeah mephedrone or Methylone(BK-MDMA) shows up as methamphetamine on a drug test.Cant remember which one though.

It’ll show up as regular amphetamine, speed as well, so you could get out of a charge by asking for a more detailed blood analysis, however this will just draw more unwanted attention to mephedrone.:cry:

i know drug tests can show up mushrooms and lsd, but what about dmt or salvia? i’m assuming the less prevalent a substance is, the less reason they have to test for it?

very unlikely they are testing for dmt or salvia

there is pretty much a different test for each chemical or close family of chemicals as far as I know. They’ll test for cannabis, coke, mdma, speed.. maybe lsd/shrooms but depends how much they want to spend on the test!

(I may be wrong about all of this, just what I’ve been told)

i more or less agree but cant remember the exact details. my old work tested for the 4 you mentioned and also included at least one psychadelics in the test. then i found out due to costs involved they only sent around 1 in 8 samples off to be tested – the tests, which were for 10% of the workforce each year (and done randomly), were meant to have a deterrent effect. what, apart from cannabis, shows in a urine/blood test after 5 days? i trip less than once a year. i saw a job which has ‘zero tolerance of recreational drugs’. this was due to safety and the type of work, so i agree with their stance more than i would agree with this policy for working in a call centre. but i wondered if you could take something knowing that you had 4 days off and were back to work on the 5th day?
