its YOUR fault you drink every day not alcohols. Take responsibility of your own actions. If you dont like what you’re doing then stop. If your instinct to drink overcomes your awareness to stop then you have failed the gom jabbar

Depends how much. I often do, but cut down a year ago and now its very rarely more than a couple of cans of bitter, no more wine or spirits.
I do however lead a physically and mentally active life so I don’t think I am doing myself any major harm. BTW I didn’t even cut down because I feared health problems, simply because it was getting boring!

as iacchus said if you truly hate the fact you drink everyday why not stop? its only hard if you think you cant do it.
If you feel its a problem then it is. I would suggest looking at the reasons why you drink rather than just shouting at yourself to stop, especially if you are unhappy. If its just a simple habit then perhaps the just stop advice is good, but its probably a lot more complex than that. Otherwise you probably wouldn’t be asking for help, you would just have stopped.
I would read about addiction, learn to understand it, learn how to make the changes, small steps, support from other people and so on. Good luck mate

error post mistake type thing
I guess the reasons for drinking are many and varied, but for me it’s not about unhappiness, it’s just nice to sit down at the end of the day and have a couple of drinks. But, if you’re drinking everyday you’ll quickly find yourself drinking more each time in order to achieve that relaxed feeling – I used to have a couple of vodkas fairly regularly – before I knew it I was drinking over half a bottle every night, maybe with some wine/beer, and not feeling that drunk. Then weekends come and I’d drink even more…coz it was the weekend! After mid-30s it catches up with you pretty quick unless you keep yourself in shape, which gets harder the more you drink.
Best thing is to take a break – 1-2 weeks, then cut down and keep taking breaks – just break the habit.
Saying that, a glass of wine a day has proven health benefits…but a glass easily turns into a bottle!
apologies if i appeared cold hearted but im just trying to say that you should master your body and not the other way around
if you want to change there is help available
………….I’d suggest if you are asking the question – it is a problem
only you can answer this
if you are not physically dependant you can stop at any time,
you may be psychologically dependant – and you may need to look at what you associate alcohol with.. because in reality if you are drinking daily it doesnt relax you – it causes high blood pressure and if psychologically dependant can cause anxiety (ie – when / where is my next drink etc) and low mood (alcohol is a depressant) and weight issues as it has tons of calories in it etc etc
if physically dependant (ie – experiencing withdrawal symptoms such as shakes, sweats, vomiting, seizures when not drinking) speak to you GP, and do not just stop as you may fit and some people die as a result of alcohol withdrawal fits. if you want to stop yourself reduce what you are drinking slowly.

……… and in reality heroin and crack are ‘banned’ and people still choose to use everyday…..
its not a legal issue – it is a personal choice issue and it is your responsibility –
unless you are tied to a chair and have a hose forcibly put down your throat? 😉
It’s best not to drink every day…
The biological mechanisms underpinning alcoholism are uncertain, however, risk factors include social environment, stress, mental health, genetic predisposition, age, ethnic group, and sex. Long-term alcohol abuse produces physiological changes in the brain such as tolerance and physical dependence. Such brain chemistry changes maintain the alcoholic’s compulsive inability to stop drinking and result in alcohol withdrawal syndrome upon discontinuation of alcohol consumption. Alcohol damages almost every organ in the body, including the brain; because of the cumulative toxic effects of chronic alcohol abuse, the alcoholic risks suffering a range of medical and psychiatric disorders. Alcoholism has profound social consequences for alcoholics and the people of their lives.
Alcoholism is the cyclic presence of tolerance, withdrawal, and excessive alcohol use; the drinker’s inability to control such compulsive drinking, despite awareness of its harm to his or her health, indicate that the person might be an alcoholic. Questionnaire-based screening is a method of detecting harmful drinking patterns, including alcoholism. Alcohol detoxification is conducted to withdraw the alcoholic person from drinking alcohol, usually with cross-tolerance drugs, e.g. benzodiazepines to manage withdrawal symptoms. Post-medical care, such as group therapy, or self-help groups, usually is required to maintain alcoholic abstention. Often, alcoholics also are addicted to other drugs, most often benzodiazepines, which might require additional medical treatment. The alcoholic woman is more sensitive to alcohol’s deleterious physical, cerebral, and mental effects, and increased social stigma, in relation to a man, for being an alcoholic. The World Health Organisation estimates that there are 140 million alcoholics worldwide.
On a lighter note though… LOL!
LOL dr b.
My Alcohol use is becoming worrying to me as well!! K is bad enough for the insides.
Tbf I have cut back a bit since the last time I made a thread on here regarding my drinking. Still drinking most/every night though. Usually just a couple of cans, sometimes wine too.
I think Im just stuck in a vicious circle of relating night time to having a few drinks.
The reason Id like to see alcohol get banned is cos its seen as an acceptable thing to do and it shouldnt be as its pretty damaging.
Maybe Im wrong here. Does anyone drink every night and not feel that it is a problem?

by that ethos so should most illegal drugs (if only for there addiction potential), smoking, fatty foods, cars, women, sugary sweets.
plus, we need people to die, we cant afford to keep people alive as long as we do already. :weee:
