MDPV (correct spelling) is a long acting stimulant drug like amfetamine. it may not be particularly damaging to the body or lethal, but large doses it can cause some very unpleasant mental effects.

I would not advise its use (or that of any stimulant) as an antidepressant as its easy to get addicted that way.

all these chemicals are now crossing the pond as they started being popular in Europe but people what overused them ended up needing various forms of medical treatment. As all European countries have social healthcare and authorities which shares trends of illegal drug use across borders, this stuff has been banned quite quickly in a lot of nations so its manufacturers are looking for new markets such as in the USA.

Although no substitute for long term testing, in Europe there has been about 2/3 years of info compiled both by users and the public healthcare authorities and widely publicised.

if you avoid the mainstream media and look at the scientific/scholarly journals and the more reliable posts on users’ forums, what has become apparent is that these substitutes for amfetamine have a worse effect on some parts of the cardiovascular and circulatory system -i.e the heart and the way blood is pumped to the rest of the body.

another issue is the nice/fun effects of the drugs are less long lasting than MDMA or standard amfetamine – so people obviously take more in a session than they would of the more illegal substances.

So although rarely fatal in overdose nor leading to irreversible damage, the side effects of these RC’s can be very unpleasant and frightening. Certainly when the cathinones were legal in the UK a lot of their users eventually ended up in hospital for a bit.

That said I think the long term mental health effects are more of a risk than the physical ones, but these are shared with the illegal drugs anyway.

I’ve seen other reports claiming people are up for days on comparatively small amounts of the stuff, (the insomnia/residual stimulation as well as the “good” bit) though this can of course be due to misjudging doses, repeated redosing and/or contamination (either accidental or deliberate) with other chemicals. I agree with you its nasty stuff and best avoided. I think it was made illegal fairly quickly in this country and few people even complained!
