their now bringing about a law where the sale of cannabis to tourists will be forbidden in an attempt to decrease the drug tourists going to amsterdam, theyre giving out cards/etc to the locals and only locals who have these cards and are over the age of 18 will be allowed to purchase weed in the coffee shops 🙁 dosent reli effect me but seems a move in the wrong direction for the drug culture
to be fair this didn’t happen overnight – there were proper democratic debates across all their levels of govt for about a decade. and it wasn’t just the fault of NL, they paid the price for doing something early and there wasn’t consensus in the EU about decrim (it did come close in the 90s)
just consider what would happen in your country if IE decriminalise ddrugs but the UK didn’t. it might be fun for a few years until the UK gangsters/paramilitaries wanted a piece of the action.
OK NL doesn’t have bad territorial disputes since a few centuries (they did have war with BE) but there are some pretty hardcore gangs there some aligned along ethnic/religious lines which has the potential to actually destabilise areas.
also the coffeeshops fucked it up for themselves as they didn’t pay their taxes properly and one part of the bargain was they did this to fund public health care/research into drugs.
I can read enough Dutch to look at the crime section of local news and there is just as much drug-related crime in many parts of NL as there is in similar areas of the UK. The idea of the coffee shops was to reduce this..
lisbon’s a much nicer city, and the hash was excellent, amsterdam is overpriced now.
fuck amsterdam, do roterdam its cheaper
ATM I am rather pleased with Copenhagen, we got sumtin that no city else got in the whole wide world…we got that da free-town, Christiania, where the quality of the hashish only can be matched by the best of the best coffee-shops, it might not match the prices of Lisboa but the atmosphere ….. raaa
Does this apply starting right now ….? Kinda sucks… Do you think coffee shops will still honor this or not bother…?
I bet you loads of coffee shops will not even bother asking for the card. Business is business.

Better to be sure than have your cafe closed down on the basis of ignoring the law. The Dutch have a good liberal system, but to just ignore 1 simple request/law is silly. My point is, the repercussions of selling to non-natives could be harsh. So to me it’s stupid and plain ignorant jut to make a few more monopoly monies.
I have said it before and say it once again;
Welcome to da free town Christiania in Copenhagen, Denmark. We have the best hasish market in the whole wide world ATM. It can only be matched by the best of coffee shops back in the days when they sold to us all.
Its a perfect place to hang out, but no ‘hard drugs’ are allowed, please respect that and you have a perfect day. (Acid and magic mushrooms is ok) In the summer is humming of activities like outside/inside parties, BBQ, restaurants(both vegetarian and meat kitchens), own little convenience store(that sells mostly organic stuff and cold cheap beers, Christiania have their own organic beer made by Thisted bryghus)head shop market and big areas just to hang out and let the day float by….
30th of May – 3rd of June 2012 would be a good time to visit Copenhagen due to its the Distortion week; DISTORTION 2012 × Front and then it will be Party ON!
Once again
Welcome!

I have heard only tales of the magical area known as Freetown Christiania. I must go soon to experience it firsthand.

depends for how much you buy, often the discounts for buying like 10 grams cuts of the gram price like 40 to 50 % it starts at around tenner a gram, but then you have like 4 or 5 different pollen(sometimes more) kind to choose from…
The laws sez none, but the wast amount of people that visit da free-town in the summer season makes it what-ever…after we had change of government rule here from right-wing to left wing the policing is more of the relaxed kind, as long you keep your panda in a leach and tell her to take normal human consideration most tings are free as fuck….
