  • Just heard the percentage of bank notes with coke on has gone up and the new UKs drug adviser has said it’s due to people wanting to stay alert………. due to longer pub and club opening hours…..

he is at least 5 years out of date anyway, as both this and the opening hours changed back then.

In the better economic times often a €10 note left over from a foreign holiday was kept aside in England as it wasn’t worth the charges to convert back into Sterling for the return, but was made out of more robust material with a plastic/wax coating, thus being more efficient when used for other purposes. The Germans also noticed this (and that their notes were also increasingly showing traces of drugs contamination) – although they had late night opening long before the Eurozone started.

Some people have some very weird ways of thinking about things and coming to conclusions.

More people takin coke because a club is open an extra hour? My arse… More like going out is getting more expensive so people would rather get high with mates n chill at home with beers n drugs than go out as much.

comparing that with the timescales quoted I think it might even have been unintended consequences of DE changing to a cheaper method of manufacturing bank notes as the economic depression started around that time (as well as perhaps clubbers switching from cocaine to amfetamines).

I think the drugs adviser is spinning this in line with a planned govt policy to repeal the late night licensing that Labour introduced, or at least charge venue owners extra.

Even without changing the national law they have already rolled back the night time economy in my town, now the dance music venues are gone the townie venues and everyone around them and entering them are very closely monitored, nannied and judged, and each bad incident associated with them is logged. The cost of dealing with each one is counted, and this is passed back to the venue managers in licensing fees and increased surveillance/security requirements and ultimately as door entry and drinks costs. At least two venues have gone out of business since (however they weren’t well run anyway). I don’t personally think this is such a bad thing as these venues attracted all the folk what said drugs are bad and drinking is OK and now they are being held to account for their behaviour – but I think the national licensing law should stay as it is as there are already existing laws to deal with problems caused by nightlife.
