Hello to all members of the forum,
Are you Over 18? Do you use legal high drugs or have used legal high drugs in the past?
Would you like to share your experiences and views?
I am conducting a research into the use of legal high drugs and users’ views for my MSc dissertation.
I am looking for participants who have taken legal high drugs to talk about their experiences over MSN/Skype or other instant messaging medium, it is a one-to-one interview!
All the information, content will be kept confidential and anonymous!
The research ethics has been approved and is under the supervision of Dr Rachael Powell from Aston University, UK.
If you would like to read more details about this study, feel free to look at this following link:
Legal High Study
If you are interested in taking part, please email Bay Chan at chans4@aston.ac.uk
Hi Bayzzz, I’ve cleared your post as its clearly legit, but the current climate is (and you might even want to add this to your dissertation) we have had to deploy automated security checking software as we get so many spammers trying to blatantly sell what are now mostly illegal class B substances on our forum, people have got used to buying “legal” highs online and are being stubborn now many are illegal.
One thing we would ask is that you do actually share the results of your study with Party Vibe, and that if possible you try and also be part of our community rather than just milking the place for info -although perhaps in your case there may be rules about not “contaminating” your research by showing a non neutral stance, I’m no expert on scientific research ethics. if this is the case, as you’ve done all the other correct stuff, perhaps you could at least confirm it, so folk don’t get suspicious?
Users here are intelligent, many if not University educated themselves or planning to go up do have the brains to read a scientific journal.
In the past we’ve helped students, often former ravers themselves (most stop partying when finals approach as they want to pass which is fair enough – years ago I carried on partying and dropped out, but never really wanted to be in uni in the first place (though I am “supposed” to be “intelligent” I’m not as academic minded as peoples (including my parents!) thought and the course wasn’t right for me
its a long story I’ll save for another time but I accept nowadays things are different, stakes are higher but most students are in uni for a course they enjoy and want succeed.
However on occasions our forum community has helped students, asked for a copy of the research results, and had this polite request ignored.
Then I’ve seen the same research quoted by the mainstream media and Police and the NHS, and ultimately often used to advance a pro prohibition/anti drugs enforcement stance. Its then hard for us not to think its all a stitch up, even if that was never the intention and the student simply was caught up in pressure of work, but people get angry at feeling they have been used to advance someones career (often in health services or even forensics or law enforcement) and also helped the nanny state stop our fun, and too many incidents like this make forum members stop co-operating.
we do accept though that there is a need for open and honest debate and research, and that things are getting better via this research being conducted at universities across the UK and Europe, so will support it if done ethically..

Hi, thanks for clearing the post.
In response to your comments, this research is in progress and currently recruiting participants. Volunteers who participate in an interview would be sent a consent form beforehand and asked if they would like a copy of the results. The results of the report (after it’s been submitted and graded) would be sent to individuals who have made a request at the beginning of the interview.
Since there is limited research on legal highs, this research purely uses interviewing to look at individuals’ experiences, and their views on LHs. The research results will be written up based on information that was provided by the individual therefore it is not used in a way to ”prove whether LHs or research chemicals are bad or good”. To reiterate, it is about individuals’ experiences, and views.
Moreover, during the interview participants does not have to answer questions they do not wish to answer. It is their choice to share however much information with the the researcher, myself.
I have a copy of the ethics form that was submitted to the Ethics Committee, if it will help you understand more of the research and give you reassurance, i would be more than happy to send you a copy by email.

I’d possibly be interested in taking part, but wouldn’t be so happy about sharing my privet instant messenger address’s. Is there another medium of communication available that’s more anonymous?

Hi, thank you for your interest.
The only other way I could think of is if you could make an extra account on medium such as msn (new email address) and only use that for the interview period?
I will need to send you an email of a consent form though, which requires you to sign (by typing your name and date) and email it back to me as a proof of consent received from you. But I guess this could also be done with the same email address mentioned above. What do you think of that?

And just to reassure you, during the analysis all participants will be identified by a number only. Therefore all personal data will be kept confidential and any identifiable information will be removed. If you wish to give yourself a pseudonym at the beginning of the interview instead of using your real name you may do so.
Hmm I’ll have to think about it, It’s gonna mean having to set up a fake untraceable email address and the likes which is a bit too much hassle tbh. When is the study?

Hi Daftfader, would it be easier for you if I set up an account and provide you with user name and password?
The interview will continue on from April 12th since I have to get on a flight tomorrow to visit my parents. So you will have 2 weeks to think if you’ll be interested to take part?
