I was hoping you guys could identify this for me. My room mate has been acting very strange lately. He never leaves his room. I went in there to grab one of my school books. I noticed a baggy with something I could not identify in it.

I took a picture. I was hoping maybe you guys could identify this?

Mike, it would be impossible to tell without doing the full CSI stuff. that could be anything. plus its missing any scale showing how big it is.

It even looks like a large shard of Suffolk flint which was one of the only things what managed to prang my bicycle tyres a few years back (I get these tyres specially from Germany and they have the same stuff as in ballistic vests in the lining), as when I got it out of the tyre and fixed the puncture I kept that flint shard with the intention of photographing it and showing it to some hippies. (Europe has smaller countries, and a fair few of us like to ride bicycles to work, however punctures are a great nuisance).

If you really are 53 and at college you are probably already in a liberal community college type place where they have counsellors etc. I’d suggest you chat to your room mate and get him to see them rather than going through his stuff and covertly photographing it and playing detective, even if maybe there is a big age difference between you and you are feeling a sort of avuncular or paternal concern for him.

Certainly not Crack. Doesn’t look like it and NO Crack user would leave that tiny bit left over.

LOL i didnt realize my age was set that high, I am 22. I first noticed that his back pack had a weird smell, almost like cat pee, which it says online would be meth, but i don’t know if was possibly crack by the pictures i’ve found of crack online, they look a little similar, what ever it is its harder to break if you pinch it, yet flexible if that makes sense

sounds and looks more like an amfetamine. Although you are perhaps more the same age, my suggestions still apply. He may not even be badly addicted as such but taking stimulants to focus concentration for exams etc, a lot of folk have done this for decades, he may just want to stay in his room! I would have a friendly chat with him and say you are worried, he might want to reduce his use himself but not know how to do so…

That could be anything, It looks a bit like an empty bag of peanuts, but as I say could be anything without getting it tested. As poly sais, if It was some kinda addictive smokeable drug, it would be unlikely you’d find a small bit left over like that unless they weren’t really bothered about smoking it too much, but that’s just an opinion.

I’m thinking I found it the day he got. I try to keep a clean dorm room and he knows I clean. I ordered an amphetamine and crack/coke substance test online is there anything else it could be in case I have to order more tests. I really want to help him, he seems so disconnected, but I dont want to wrongfully accuse him

I can understand you ‘really want to help him’, but does he think he has any sort of problem? he may just be having a ‘fun’ time, a little blip, other stuff may be going on which means he just wants some space – and he is using recreationally etc etc – have you even spoken to him about this?

If he is in serious difficulty with using and is addicted as in any addiction until he wants help or change there is nothing at all you can do to change him,

I understand in the US they do ‘interventions’ but I am unsure how successful they are, as I am sure worldwide addiction is the same, he will only ever change (long term) if he is motivated from with in – I guess if he has his uni place threatened this may be enough motivation etc but it has to come from him, and you will prob need to get used to watching,
it may help to go online to NA (narcotics annonymous) to get some more info on addiction, or see if there are any groups for friends / family you could go to to get advice.
