Generally speaking they prefer rainwater to standing water, so hill tops and the higher reaches of fields tend to be more magic friendly than standing water, puddles or rivers/streams.
Sheep grazing fields better than cow grazing, they generally spore close to beech trees. But the bottom line is – you have to get your eyes at ground level and see what you can find. Usually early in the morning (first people that get up are the first that get a chance to harvest).

EDIT: THere you go. The only really DANGEROUS LETHAL mushrooms you might mistake them for at the Deathcaps, there’s a link in there to give you pictures (deathcaps have a little skirt around them half way up, no nipple on top).
