Working at a pub has turned me into a semi alcoholic I think? I get drunk like 3 times a week every week and I drink at least a glass of wine or pint everyday. Everyone says it’s okay since I’m a student but I dunno…
I don’t even like drinking really, I don’t think. My body can’t handle it and I puke after like 5 pints 🙁
what do you think, anyone else work at a bar/pub/club and drink all the time?
I didn’t even work at a pub but quit most hard drugs in recent years and until I started learning to drive I used to drink a similar amount (though also quit because I was putting on weight)
I knew this who had major drink issues while running a pub.She would get drunker and drunker as the night went on. She would get drunk and make mistakes, insult people and think its; funny and intentionally blank people she didn’t like and make them wait to get served ETC. She was a right mess.
Not saying you are like that LOL
That’s not semi-alcoholic, that’s just called being British! Are you eating anything substantial before drinking? If not, you’ll get drunk a lot quicker and also increase the likelihood that you’re gonna puke.
I think its ok since youre a student too lol (prob not a good wy to think) depends on your age? I used to drink a few times a week in my early 20’s but now i only drink about once a month.
If you don’t like/enjoy it though, you shouldn’t do it, why do you do it?

Oh yay can I be British now? (I’m actually American) Haha it’s been one of my life long goals. Umm I usually will have a pint or two during work and then stay after and waste all the money I made back on the pub.

I’m 21, well I do like it. I like the different tastes of ales and lagers but I don’t like being drunk, and after I have one it’s hard stopping you know?
the key to the whole thing is knowing when to stop generally; my advice would be if you’re not making a profit from something you call work then me in your shoes would re-evaluate why I was doing it. Not that i’m not advocating being drunk, drunk is great. Its just how drunk is done.
when i go 2 days without drinking i put on my little red cape

I used to work in pub/restaurants in the kitchens, and although I drank a lot before (when I was at college, and even before that), this kinda solidified my drinking as it was sooo easy, and everyone else was doing it so was v-normal to drink in that setting.
Don’t fall into the “it’s ok because you’re young/ a student” thing as age and current education status have no relation to the addiction properties of a substance, it’s more the regularity that you are consuming them in this case by the sound of it. If you’re having to ask you’re self if you are drinking too much, the answer most likely is yes. Most of the people I’ve worked with in pubs drink way too much. If it’s a really busy bar/kitchen it doesn’t help either as it can really ramp up stress levels, which in turn makes it even more easy to decide to have a drink at the bar.

There’s an American comedian called Dave Fulton who does a great routine about the difference between US and UK attitudes to drinking, can’t find the link at the mo, but well funny.
It’s slightly worrying though if you’re essentially spending all your money at work, cos then you end up doing extra shifts to make more cash and then spending that as well, thus becoming a vicious circle. Plus, 99% of drinks you can get in pubs over here have lots of chemicals in them (and not the good kind) to preserve them and keep them at that alcohol level constantly. I find those chems and preservatives really fuck with my brain – so these days I only drink German beer and it’s a completely different type of being drunk, way more fun, I remember more and have less chance of a hangover the next day.

what type of beer?… where is good to get it?… i mostly drink ales for this reason, not sure its a winner tho, they seem to irritate my stomach a bit the next day

Oh no don’t worry about chemicals and all that, my manager is passionate (it’s a traditional old English pub dating back to god knows when) and he teaches us about all the ales and lagers we sell. I mostly drink the ale cause I quite like it and it’s the cheapest! Youngs bitter 😀
But yeah, I’m starting out slow, I told myself I’m not going to drink for a week, which I messed up yesterday because someone mispoured hoegaarden and I couldn’t resist cause I love the stuff. But I’m going to keep trying, I’ve also told my colleages not to serve me 😛

Yeah it’s really hard when my manager is like “get a drink on my tab!” Or when something is mispoured and then becomes unsellable.. might as well drink it instead of wasting right? lol
Yeah I’m definetly drinking too much, it should go down once I’m back in America though I think, just because I won’t know the places to go and the friends to go with.. :hopeless:
