TBH from researching Court reports in both countries, it appears that most higher level dealers in both UK and NL are the kind of middle aged and even elderly men who work(ed) in semi skilled trades or the haulage/maritime industries rather than chemists. Heroin and MDMA share the same supply chains as they are “hard drugs” or “class A” in both nations.
These men, who can be into their 60s and 70s aren’t complete psychos (many run the drugs as sidelines to otherwise respectable family businesses) but they are often bitter and jaded for a variety of reasons including their own long term drug use/addictions (incidentally a lot of men in “heavy” industries do use heroin as self-medication for chronic pain caused by lifting too much of heavy stuff in a “macho” culture).
I would have thought that mixing heroin and MDMA would result in a financial loss but perhaps there is so much to go round in Europe (especially with displaced foreigners in warzones often being desparate for a income source outside the mainstream economy of their new country) that is is just a few euro cents loss on each deal and far less than Douane / Border Force might seize anyway, and they probably think “well it hasn’t killed me or my son/daughter, so its not going to hurt these kids that badly”
And as harsh as the penalty Korno’s friend is facing might seem, someone off here got 5 times that sentence for possession with intent to supply pure, clean MDMA in an affluent area od SE England.
