  • Currently heroin addicts have to fund their addiction by stealing or prostituting themselves. The heroin they buy is dangerously poor quality resulting in infection and overdose. The purchase of street heroin funds organized crime and terrorism.

If heroin was prescribed to addicts they could get safe clean heroin from the doctor for free. They could shoot up in a hospital or safe environment. They wouldn’t need to commit crime to fund their habit and organized crime would be reduced. A heroin addict’s quality of life would be greatly improved if they were prescribed heroin.

Any heroin users have an opinion on this?

Why would their prescription be free is my first question

Are the rest of the taxpayers meant to fund other people’s addiction?

Also if buying street drugs yeah I might fund a little bit of terrorism (although probably not), but if I’m buying prescribed and quality controlled drugs then I’m funding our government (the worst kind of terrorism).

The government is pretty shitty but i’d rather the money go to the government and help the people of our country then go to Vietnamese gangs that use children and slaves to grow shitty weed that people still buy.

That’s not going to happen, you want the money to help the people then the money has to go to the people and not into governments pocket

    some nice points here.

i would think that is a really good idea. it sounds like something something that might happen in a caring society. i would say prescribing heroin on the condition that the user would have to book into a caring rehab centre and have a try at total abstinence. i think this would suit the user who in the majority would want to escape heroin. i think this would be better than prescribing methadone which users often use in combination with heroin anyway.

my thoughts are mostly formed through watch russell brand’s heroin documentary

If people stop prostituting themselves for heroin though how am I gonna get laid? Don’t be taking my smack whores away!

Simple mate, you take the money that’s currently used to fund rehab programs that 90% of the time don’t work and re-route it to cover the cost of the smack. It’d work out much more cost-effective in the end because if the addicts are getting their smack for free, then they don’t have to go robbing or selling their bodies and consequently the crime figures will drop considerably, thus freeing up more Police man-hours and also making the streets far safer for all.Win/win situation I reckon man.

But what about my smack whores?

Maybe I would have taken the OP’s statement a little more serious if they hadn’t named themselves smackchimp lol

If potential smack-heads knew that free gear was available once addiction took over that hardly does anything to discourage its use and will likely lead to less thievery and nasty prostitution but more people turning to heroin as their drug of choice and becoming dependent on it where they wouldn’t before. Short term it sounds like a good plan but long term I doubt if anyone would benefit all that much.

i disagree. ofc 1 idea won’t work for everyone, but i think taking away the stress of illegality would help people a lot

Taking away the stress of illegality and giving people free smack are two different things. I would definitely not support something like that because at some point you have to take responsibility for yourself. There need to be better rehab programs but giving someone free smack is basically enabling someone to hurt themselves.

smack that they will get anyway and get them into other troubles also. there is always supply so why not to get it from a dr rather than some dodgy dealer

    is it

Well, if they are gauching obviously not. If they’re itching and scratching for a hit then of course.

How exactly is prescribing heroin helping them quit addiction? It isn’t. And while such a move would reduce (not eliminate) addicted fuelled crime and anti-social behaviour, the fact is that non-addicts are not going to be happy seeing people just “matrixed off” with a needle and a bag of smack a day.
