UN Commission on Global Drug Policy, which includes Richard Branson, have released a new report on global drug policy saying the war on drugs is a failure and should be scrapped. Whether any members of the UN take any notice of the report that they commissioned is anyone’s guess (my guess is no).
Link with interview with Branson and audio of the presentation of the report is here: Video: Rethinking Drug Policy with Sir Richard Branson | Center for Strategic and International Studies
The money saved to taxpayers by throwing avaliable funds at rehab and harm prevention instead of enforcement and interdiction is redic. The ‘moral majority’ in the USA in the not so distant past really set everyone back, can’t legislate morality, never could never will. if someone wants to get high we should probably figure out how to best help them do it in a safe way than try to lock them up, but there is an issue with being too premissive in drug policy.
the stat on rehab costing a 1/3rd as much as prison is wild.
richard branson puts a face to philanthrophy for drug reform but George Soros has been the $$$ behind it stateside for forever. look him up.
