Thank god no-one was hurt, how the fuck did she get that crayon past the full body search in yhe school entrance?

Kid would have turned less heads had he been carrying an actual gun lol

Hope if I’m ever shot, it’s with the words pew-pew

I wouldn’t mind being shot with a tazer, I’m curious in a life threatening sort of way lol

Incredible, I wouldn’t mind shooting you with a tazer. What a coincidence. Have to get a tazer now, science is science after all and we must see the results.

      You guys are crazy LOL

Feel free to join in Angel, I’ll even let you shoot psyentist a few times with the tazer.

        I’ll rather grill you

Could have potentially burned the house down a good few years ago when I tried making a cup of coffee. I was at my parents and think I’d hammered zopiclone or something, and I took the PLASTIC electric kettle, filled it up, put it on the gas stove and lit it. Thank fuck I was in my parents. Didn’t even remember it the next day. Woke up to a new kettle, says “like the new kettle, when’d you get that”, “this morning after you set fire to the old one yesterday son”.
You nearly could have had your wish then.

LMAO at the whole tazering conversation

Save you going to the barbers if you wear your hair like that anyway.

A living creature can receive a shock from quite strong voltage without lasting ill effects provided the electric current is kept below a safe level [that varies with species, size and state of general health].

Tasers (and modern electric fence systems; which are deployed against species that have a far lower tolerance to electricity than humans) are supposed to limit the current but produce a very high voltage

the circuit for these kinds of devices is relatively easy to build (though if you want anything over about 300 volts requires a lot of fiddly winding of fine wire on a coil); when batteries were first invented in 1800 by an Italian chap called Alessandro Volta he actually demonstrated them by shocking people and/or making big sparks; as there wasn’t much else invented that could use electricity .

it did inspire Michael Faraday from England and Hans Christian Ørsted from Denmark to discover the links between electricity and magnetism – which is the basis of how all our gadgets work (and also how a small battery can be made to produce a strong voltage from the right kind of coil)

The text below (in French; he was writing to scientists who may not know Italian but learned French as a second language) explains the 60 cell battery (about 120 volts) was too painful for one assistant when he held one side of the battery and put his hand into a bowl of salt water connected to the other side.

Volta therefore increased the number of assistants so 3 or more people got a less painful shock (so his name is honoured in the units for measuring the pressure of an electric current). His battery could not deliver enough current to harm them but could provide enough current for making telegraphs, telephones and other indicators work.

120 volts can often appear on telephone cables (as part of the ringing signal, or power to digital equipment); unpleasant enough if you brush your knuckles against open block terminals (which is why they are not used any more these days) and sometimes I can even feel the -48 volts that is usually always present on standard analogue circuit. Perhaps this is due to increasing age as it never seemed to bother me before. What usually causes accidents to telecoms engineers is not the shock but being at height/in a confined space and reflex actions making you fall off the ladder/out the roof space and bust up other bits of your body…

        E&M physics!!!!!!!!!!! love this board.

So are you saying you could build me 1 of these GL? Hope so cos I’d to the shoot that little shit HAHAHA :devil_wag

until the 2000s I would but today we’d both get hauled up by the anti-jihadi squad (these things are now classed as “controlled weapons”) and have to sit 2.5 years inside for this harmless prank. (an alarming number of things I did in the 1980s now have that consequence).

During the 80s my parents once thought it was a good idea to send me to one of those prep schools for a few years so I’ve already done time once and would rather not do it again (although the food at HMP today is probably better).

There may still be the burn mark in the rear desk of the science labs of that school; in 1983 along with some friends we unearthed the teachers secret (and today illegal) hoard of flashpowder and all sorts.

I was the one who suggested it would not be a good idea to light up the charge with a splint at arms length but instead run electric cable to a safer area; and terminate the ends of these with resistance wire buried in the pile of powder under a upturned beaker (which glows red hot at only 12 volts if short enough). This was just as well; as when everyone was clear and I set off the furse the whole lot went up quite spectacularly and if they were within 1.5m would have been in the range of flash burns and shrapnel.

A few years later the cops had every school science lab searched by boffins at AWE Harwell and those sorts of chemicals confiscated (my next high school was devoid of them)

It is not illegal to demonstrate how the electric weapons made (there’s a few videos online about this) – but increasingly rare to find the kind of old style trafo in a mains power unit that you can use for this purpose as they are all sealed switch mode modules. Others use the inside of disposable cameras with built in flash; if you know anyone who works in the places where the film is extracted and processed they often have access to a shit ton of these modules
