Thankfully not [in any case I have 3 separate mobile numbers across a similar number of devices + 5 VOIP numbers]; just as well as my mum decided to sell the old family house and move in with me (as my sister and brother in law didn’t want to take on the house as its too big/expensive for them).

Therefore she can have her own phone number but keeps forgetting to dial the 9 escape digit; even though i set up an analogue a PABX in our old house that I hauled out of a disused building.

On the many tech sites there are usually dudes there who are the eldest son in an extended Asian family [often with kids and grandkids]; they have home network equipment that fills an entire room and can take 2 x 24RU racks (better than a 48RU as you need to stand on a old cable spool to reach the top units)

and my fixed GSM terminal can’t do MMS anyway -to send a text with it I need to use a old RS232 cable and terminal software; it does work as an analogue phone endpoint which is what I wanted it for (so I can get cheap/free “fixed” to mobile calls). One thing it can however do is even work with a traditional dial telephone; and I have on the wall a 115dB alarm bell and a German “trump” signal horn – these are going to be built into a warning system for loss of 230V mains or the ventilator fans (that keep the telephone adaptors from running hot) stalling; but I can equally use them to blare in the ears of jokers who call/text me at stupid hours for inappropriate reasons

the 24V bell is only about £15 from Radiospares; maybe you could put it above the wall where you cousin sleeps and use it to train him against such behaviour (it has been proven to work with dogs).

at least in the old days (and in modern China) chaps like that could be put to work in the factories doing some job which is vital but does not require much brains and they can’t do too much damage if they make a mistake.

At the Chinese factory where my e-bike is made (designed in Kent, first assembly in China then final assembly in either UK or DE depending on end market) they have some dude whose sole job is to remove all the cheap steel allen bolts and nuts which the frame is delivered with; hand the frame over to the next lot and weigh in the bolts (and also remove some poor quality brake arms) someone else these then re-assembles the bike with A1 stainless steel marine grade fasteners and better components so it won’t be plagued by the rust issues any bike used in Northern Europe would otherwise suffer.

I’ve seen films of the factory; it is no sweatshop and better than some electronics manufacturing places I’ve worked at in Blighty.

What I didn’t (and still don’t) understand is why the Chinese don’t supply the frame with the better steel bolts; as they make those too; and they also ride their e-bikes in coastal areas. unless someone even more dumb (perhaps due to inheriting the position from a family member) has ended up as a manager at the metal factory…

no; and there literally are 10 000 Chinamen with the same name; many of whom are far more intelligent than I am ( specialist doctors, professors, aviation and computer scientists); what is spooky is many of them have the same hobbies. one dude photographed a distinctive Suffolk sheep the exact same week I had done the same (it wasn’t the same sheep but he had been sent to the UK for work not far away)

Electronics component suppliers regularly prefix my name with “Mr Great Britain” – although I may be fairly fit and healthy for my age this is more to avoid a parcel being misrouted to Singapore/Malaysia as they still often order their components (that are often made in a factory in the same country) from the UK

there a lot of Suffolk sheep (the breed is world famous) and possibly smarter than others (here they are co-operating with geese to investigate part of a field)

Some Chinese factories are better than others (Malaysia also has to compete against China for a lot of contracts); I try to get my stuff from the better ones and/or reuse old kit. Although Behringer sound equipment is often seen as cheap low end stuff it is not as bad these days and they are one of the best employers in China for looking after their staff.

The bigger problem is subcontracting instead of giving permanent jobs to workers and everyone in richer countries not just wanting new gadgets but more features and upgrading every two years creating an expectation of continuous growth (there is only 2% profit on a smartphone).
