This is the frenchtek info post for this year (2005) (relayed from SJ and other places)

this event has not been authorised by the French authorities (unlike last year).

This is a call to all those who are ready to give some of their time for the Paris teknival. We need your help. This teknival will probably be the biggest ever, which also means lots of work.

If everything goes well and we show ourselves as respectfull and responsible people, we’ll be in a position to reclaim our right to party.

If you can donate a few hours of your party time (as much as you want really), we’ll need help for the following:

entrance/donation

collect signatures for the petition (a petition for the future of french rave)

monitoring & prevention (touring the tek with talkie walkie to locate and indicate potential problems)

general help with logistic

cleaning and rubbish collection (everything will be recycled)

Of course you are free to choose what you’d like to do from the above.

This is a message from French raver “Gérard baste” from Squatjuice. Another French raver I was speaking to yesterday said that he was slightly frightened, but gave the impression that although the French authorities would be pissed off but wouldn’t take it so far as to gas/shoot a very large contingent of EU citzens and risk a major civil disturbance the whole World would know about (they are expecting 100,000 people – about the entire population of Reading all in one place).

of course there is a chance it get busted. but it won’t happen. we know what we are doing and have been doing tek for more than a decade.

in fact i beleive the gov will be concerned by the health safety of that many people, and will give permission at the last minute.

unfortunately even the area would be too much to disclose at present

its not like last year when it was fully legal – and French cops are different, some units are linked with the Army and run by the defence ministry rather than the interior ministry (Home office) as in Britain. My french friend said he thought they might call the Army as well , but they would probably just stand there looking pissed off and not do anythng much (might direct traffic I suppose or prevent villages getting rinsed). If you know French, consider what the word gendarme means….

Incidentally the government ministry which runs the gendarmerie was looking at partyvibe as early as the start of this year…

I will ask him again how you are supposed to dial that funny partyline – he sort of explained it last night but I’m not sure if you can dial it in the UK before setting out (it will probably not be updated until the last moment anyway)

its a special number you can only phone from france….from payphones i think. Ixnay….well as long as i can get from Paris to it without a car, i.e train then walk of under 10miles im happy.

Hey people, Im French and I just found out about this site (looking around the web lol).. As you know, the French Tek is slowly starting to get organised.. There is that adress where you can sign up to be a volunteer(^^).. Apparently I heard that although it seems to be illegal so far, the gvt is ‘starting’ to look at the situation and it might be legal (they are negociating a terrain that has to be provided by the gvt to host the event).. as someone said they are probly getting concerned by the health problems that could occur so I hope things will move a bit faster from now on because this WILL be a large event and we WILL be mobilised for the French Teknival so were keeping our fingers crossed…
in Paris theres going to be a big musical parade next saturday to show the gvt were here and we do exist.. ( Karna[ge]val ) Lots of sounds systems and artists as well as jugglers are planning to participate.. I know I will go 🙂
