  • Free festival all night saturday, seven soundsystems covering all styles of dance and live bands! Some big names playing including DJ Vibes, MZone, MCs Connie & Livelee + loads more!

This is being run strictly as a private party to comply with public entertainment laws so you need to sign up for membership at least 48 hours in advance on http://www.missinginmanchester.org.uk

    Seeyas all there!

What happened with this? I finishesd work last night and was all ready for a boogie and got a call from my mate telling me it’s cancelled? OB intervention?

sorry to hear it got busted and it must have been truly gutting to build yourselves up for an event like that only to see it get busted at the last moment..

OTOH it all seemed a bit blatant to me… if we plugged a warehouse rave like that in the south it would never have been allowed to happen and those who did it would get a court summons for no license as well as the CJA laws (which is already happening).

the “private party” blag doesn’t always work as some council areas can demand a license is obtained for a large private event – this facility was introduced in 1989 or thereabouts to prevent the old “acid house party” promoters blagging their events as private parties……….

This event came across more like an organised illegal club night than a free party, would have surely pissed off the licensed club owners as they would have thought “well we pay loads for our licenses and this lot get away with a blatantly illegal event”

assuming GMP weren’t staking out the whole of manchester waiting to see where the ravers ended up, I wonder if it could have been a manager of one of the licensed venues which grassed up this event?

I think the police were keeping ears to ground after the last loony bin rave. Things went a bit sideways thanks to scally people.

I was gutted it got busted. Was working in a cheesy-pap club having to serve brain dead scalloise ’til 2am. The only thing getting me through was being able to laugh at the idiocy of the scalloise pissing their money away in a crap club knowing there was a nice big party going on they didn’t have a clue about.

Ended up in a cave with some friends after work making cooked brekkie and cups of tea watching the sunrise…Better than a poke in the face with a fish but not quite the boogying fun I had in mind for the evening.

Did any equipment get pinched by the police? Were any arrests made?

glad to hear you made the best of it. somewhat ironic that it appears that the scallies brought it on top for the free parties yet are happy to spend their money in a commercial venue…

I reckon it was probably the previous violent events which made GMP jittery – IME in most city areas the cops don’t often stop raves unless there is serious trouble (crews in London and Reading got away with raves for years until the damage and violence got out of hand)

Incidentally even if those who are attacked at a rave don’t tell the dibble, the NHS paramedics often informally do so – they don’t give names but just send messages to the cops like “significant number of people presenting to ED throughout the night with assault injuries following illegal rave”)

I drove from Edinburgh for this….was a bit gutted that it got shut down. I’m no expert on warehouse parties or the situation in Manchester, but the venue was only a few hundred metres from a housing estate. I dont know for sure but I think it was running for a bit before it got shut down, like 30-40minutes but ah well…ill still try an make it to the next one.

Yeah, this was soooo gutting. We drove around for nearly 5hrs until we finally gave up and headed home.

I have to admit though that it sounded like there were a lot of dodgy gits going. I’ve heard stories of groups causing trouble on the trams, and I saw loads of groups of chavs waiting around for it, at one point I asked a group about what was going on, only to be told “fuck off mosher”.

I only see this sort of thing round Manchester, the Leeds party scene is much more laid back and friendly which might explain why partys there are busted less.

First of all big apologies to anyone that ended up stuck with nowhere to go. We managed to set up some of the soundsystems in basements under houses eventually but there was no way we could fit everyone in so it couldn’t go on the phone line. Most people seem to have made it to impromptu house parties but we’re truly gutted for anyone that had to sleep in the station :'(

The important thing is, nobody got arrested and all the soundsystems got out without being stopped.

At the first site, the gates were on rollers that opened sideways and because they hadnt been opened in years they came off their track and jammed so we couldn’t keep the police out, they arrived in seconds and drove right inside and chased everyone out. We tried to get everyone to storm the warehouse and sit inside but the crowd were understandably intimidated by the police and stood outside, so with no protection for the rigs we couldn’t start setting up.

We decided to pull out before anyone got nicked. At the backup we had a bitch of a job getting in. We had to improvise a plan to get everyone there and chose victoria as the nearest meeting point that everyone could find quickly and a big crowd might not be too obvious, but we didn’t know there were loads of police next door for the ricky hatton fight at the MEN arena. The police presence was huge and the crowd would have been followed to the party, plus there were lots of reports of plain clothes CID trying to blend into the crowd. We had people there to lead the crowd to the party but by the time we were into the building we knew police were already waiting at the end of the road so we got out while we could.

Had we had an extra 5 mins before the police arrived, or managed to close the gates, it all would have been a different story. Had the police just let the party continue, we would all have had a great night and the police would have had NO HASSLE whatsoever. Because the police stopped the party they had to cope with huge crowds of people with nowhere to go and waste at least 100 officers all over victoria station alone! do they really have nothing better to do than spoil everyones saturday night for no reason?

One way or another the police were there very quick, there was a security guy over the road who we didn’t find out about until the last moment and it was too late to sort out another place. Maybe the police had the partyline number or maybe they responded extremely quickly to a call from the security guard over the road, it was so close but we failed.

Massive thanks to everyone who worked SO SO HARD to put this party on and gave their time and in many cases money. everyone worked really hard and took risks just to give a bunch of fellow party people a great night out and it warms the heart that there are so many people out there prepared to do that.

Thanks for coming and thanks for trying everyone.

this was a badly thought through affair – the party was just next to a police station, just near a residential area. they advised people the go along the metro which is cammed up. the fall back location was right next door to victoria station, where there was the ricky hatton fight, so there were loads of police there. it had been advertised for AGES so there were hundreds and hundreds of people milling around.

the organisers practically ASKED for it to be busted! to blame a bunch of kids for turning up is totally wrong.
