Chaos as bull runs amok on road
A Highland bull charged a police car and caused utter chaos on a main road in Wiltshire on Sunday evening.
Wiltshire Police were called to the A350 between Melksham and Warminster after a member of the public reported the creature ambling along the road.
Officers tried unsuccessfully to herd the animal into a field and there was confusion as cars swerved to avoid it.
Finally, in the early hours the bull allowed itself to be guided into a nearby field.
Officers shaken
“There was absolute chaos at the scene as lorries and cars swerved to avoid it as it started walking up the road,” a Wiltshire Police spokesman said.
“It then charged a police vehicle which had been sent to deal with the thing.”
The animal dented the side of the bonnet, took off the grille but left shaken officers inside unharmed and able to drive away.
“Just after midnight, the animal agreed to go into a nearby field,” the spokesman added.
“We have contacted the owner and it has been taken back to its rightful home.”
One of Britain’s oldest, most distinctive, and best-known breeds, with a long, shaggy coat and horns several feet long, Highland females can weigh up to a ton while males are often heavier.
