I’m in favour of reasonably liberal immigration laws, too much foriegn blood in me, to say anything else!
Nice to see that most people try to show a bit of empathy, on this issue. IMHO there are two sorts of legal immigrants, the ones who come because they want to (usually in good order, in terms of jobs, language, finance etc), and those who have little option, for various genuine reasons.
I don’t think arriving in a strange country, with a strange language, without resources, and relying on the state for everything, is a barrel of laughs. Anybody who believes that is delusional!
There was a riot at one of the ‘detention centres’ a while back, sparked when the warders refused to let inmates (people waiting for there case to be decided) watch media coverage of a critical report by government inspectors, on the centre itself.
These people are not criminals, even if their applications are refused, but we treat them with very little respect.
