Three people have been injured in a shooting at a Nottingham nightclub.
Officers were called to the Edge club in Lower Parliament Street just before 0400 BST on Sunday.
The casualties, some of whom had suffered gunshot wounds, were taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre but their injuries are not life-threatening.
Streets near the club have been sealed off. Last month armed police patrols were sent to the St Ann’s area of the city following three shootings there.
But overall gun crime in the city had fallen over the last two years, police said.
Reassure public
Figures released in April revealed officers dealt with a total of 298 offences last year – compared with 442 the year before.
Shootings involving the most serious firearms were also down from 42 in 2004 to 11 in 2005.
Chf Supt Pete Moyes said he wanted to reassure the public that the latest shooting was not a random attack.
“A firearm was discharged in a nightclub, which means that someone purposefully went out with a gun intent on using it,” he said.
He also urged taxi drivers, takeaway owners and anyone in the area at the time of the attack to come forward.
