  • apparently its a power failure to the data centre, but I would have thought that most data centres have some sort of resilience (or a business the size of myspace would use more than one single data centre in a single location)

it does make you wonder (it would be good way of introducing monitoring software for law enforcement!)

Good point GL. Didnt cross my mind.

No doubt it’s tough job keeping one of the world’s most popular website online but you’d have thought given the money they have to play with they’d do better job. They’ve had loads of downtime lately…

Popular websites are popular with Hackers, could be them responsible for downtime perhaps.

Wouldn’t trust myspace as far as I could comfortably spit a full grown elephant anyway…

    It’s owned by AOL/Time Warner for a start…

Not going to get started here though. save that for another thread…:rant::rant::rant::rant::rant::biggreen:

I agree Isnt/wasnt murdock involved too?

This is from the brochure of Equinix, the company which supplies myspace with their servers.. apparently this is what you get in one of their data centres power wise! Half of LA could be wiped out and this place would still work…

either a lot of porkies are being told; or (to knock a server farm off line with this much backup) someone has fucked up big time somewhere along the line!

    Quote:
    Power Systems with Distributed Redundancy
Highly reliable power is imperative for critical customer operations. The entire electrical system has built-in redundancy to guarantee continuous operation. The overall system is N+1 redundant, including each component within the parallel electrical systems.
    • AC and DC raceways with 2N distribution
    • AC power delivery via distributed redundant UPS systems
    • Batteries with at least 7 minutes full load operation (diesel engine generators take roughly 8 seconds to synchronize and assume load); 48 hours worth of generator fuel; contracts with multiple fuel providers.
    • Isolation K factor transformers used for 480 volt UPS to 208/120 volt. K factor of K20; 80 degrees Centigrade rise; copper winding, dc system fuse protection; -48 volt delivery via fuse panels.
    Customer Power
Power systems are designed to meet customers’ diverse needs. Every AC circuit installed receives a 10-outlet, 20 amp-rated power strip with an internal circuit breaker. Redundant power configurations can be purchased and will be fed from diverse sources, particularly when customers utilize dual-corded equipment. IBX AC power systems are capable of delivering both 120v AC and 208v AC power in a variety of amperage configurations.
DC power will be delivered in a -48 volt configuration. Again, redundant DC power circuits can be powered by diverse feeds, A & B. All DC power feeds must be terminated on a DC distribution panel, which can be purchased from Equinix or supplied by customers. Upon request, DC power can be delivered in a variety of amperage configurations.

Maybe Arnie took a dislike to it? I don’t see anything about their DC being terminator proof… 🙂

apparently a heatwave in LA took out the power; and all the backup kit failed…seems plausible (espcially as lots of US regions are without power_ but someone is gonna get what for for this –

hell, I’m sure if any of us had been promised that sort of resilience for their data centre and then a bit of hot weather took out the whole fucking lot you wouldn’t be a happy bunny…. (FFS everyone is aware there are heatwaves in summer, do people not use their brains when designing and specifying equipment any more?)

what about all the datacentres in countries like Malaysia, Hong Kong etc where its heatwaves all year round (except during monsoon and earthquake season..?) they seem to work…

I can get in now..But suddently a box is comming up saying Internet Explorer have found a error (or somthing) and then all my internet programs shut down..

hope you can make sense of it,hard to explain..

might be worth checking your PC for viruses and making sure all windows updates are installed

        (or installing firefox!)
