1) URGENT STOP THE WAR FINANCIAL APPEAL

Stop the War needs urgently to raise £10,000 to cover the cost of our emergency demonstration on Saturday 5 August (details below). It will be the fourth major event on the crisis in Lebanon and Gaza organised by Stop the War within three weeks. The August 5 demonstration is more important than ever, following the latest Israeli atrocity at Qana, in which up to 60 refugees from previous Israeli bombing, at least 21 of them children, were slaughtered when Israel destroyed the house in which they were desperately sheltering.

The Stop the War office is being inundated with messages and calls from all over the country asking for details of the demonstration and for transport arrangements.

Demonstrations cost money. The staging, the leaflets, the posters, the placards, the running of the national STW office, all of it is paid for by donations from Stop the War supporters. We don’t have any rich benefactors, unlike Tony Blair, who, on the very day of the Qana massacre, is swanning around at a Rupert Murdoch gathering, probably expressing pride at standing “shoulder to shoulder” with George Bush and Israel.

People everywhere will want to join the demonstration but they have to know about it first. We desperately need the funds to make sure they do and to organise the demonstration. We must make our voices heard. To remain silent would be criminal. Please send us donations large and small. We can make a difference. Blair’s own cabinet is split, the Labour Party is in turmoil, the vast majority of British people are outraged.

The demonstration of 5 August will assemble at Hyde Park Speakers Corner (nearest tube Marble Arch), march via the US Embassy in Grosvenor Square to Trafalgar Square, down Whitehall past Downing Steet, where we will hand in a letter demanding that Tony Blair call for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and Gaza, and into Parliament Square, where there will be a rally.

4) ISRAEL’S BARBARISM WITHOUT LIMIT

Israel’s atrocities rise daily but they are on the brink of their most horrific onslaught yet. Over 100 nuclear “bunker busting” bombs have been rushed to Israel, via Prestwick airport in Scotland, with the intention, it must be assumed, to flatten southern Lebanon completely.
