I don’t understand why he would give up as its still a free event without problems; and there are not many parts of the World where you can get the military to lease you a venue for two weeks for only £600? We’d be celebrating if this was the case in Britain!
Doesn’t make sense. Although there is a risk of commercialism, surely its not got that bad yet – and surely someone who had pulled off such a good rave would want to do it again?
Anyone from CZ know why the man would seem so downhearted?
Mastov, North Bohemia, Aug 7 (CTK) – CzechTek organiser Tomas Vainer announced that this year´s 13th CzechTek music festival was the last one as it lost its original atmosphere, he told journalists today.
“CzechTek has become a mass event and its atmosphere of a techno music rave has disappeared,” Vainer said.
It is estimated that some 40,000 people attended the event that started on July 28. The organisers leased the site from the Czech military for 24,225 crowns until tomorrow morning.
“The area is almost in the same state as it was before CzechTek started. It can again be fully used for military purposes,” Defence Minister Karel Kuehnl said today.
Kuehnl said that the area has already been cleaned up. “The rave took place without major incidents. The cooperation with the organisers, police and the medical service worked well,” he said.
Last year, police dispersed the CzechTek rave near Mlynec, west Bohemia, using water cannons and tear gas, and dozens of people, both ravers and policemen, were injured. The police action was strongly criticised by media, but also part of politicians.

Strange but yeah i do actually know someone that i can ask about it.. he’s been involved in czech tek for years now so will have a word and see what he says…
Maybe he want to keep the next czech tek back from medias……this year everyone knew, where was that, when it started,…..there were strange people, who didnt know, what rave culture is, they went there only because it was in newspapers, in television, etc. …people, who preffer commercial music, but they have heard, that Czech tek is coool. …..i know that in britain will be people grateful for this, but in Czech republic are another laws….I like the feeling, that nobody knows, where will be Czech tek, and will receive this information one day ago, before it starts…. I think, that next event will be illegal and kept in secret to last monents….people in Czech now know, that ravers arent only junkies like last year thx medias….they know, that they have cleaned the area, made business in nearest villages, so next year, if it will be illegal, it wont be necessary to call police to break the party up….but who knows….maybe that elections will win the side of socialists with man called Paroubek, who has despatched police there last year and the situation will repeat:hopeless:
Hmm yes Paroubek has a lot to answer for with regard to the brutality that happened last year.,….
I know what you mean though you would rather that is was kept underground and that only the people in the know would be able to find out information on it and therefore only the real party people would be there not those that don’t know what it is really all about..
But it is good that now they have been able to see the real side of it that we ravers are not a threat to soceity as they have always seen us before that we do respect the area we party in and leave it clean an tidy that we don’t commit crimes breaking into things etc.. all we want to do is enjoy ourselves an meet like minded people and have a party..
R.I.P CzechTek – I hope and pray that their is a continuation and the party is held again next year – not least because been meaning to go for last few years and failing and was determined to make it next year, but also becuase the Czech festival is imo an important part of European culture and the whole continent suffers without it’s existance.
However, it kind of loses that role if it is made too mainstream and taken inside the state and onto militairy land, as it becomes just another festival, so I can see where the organisers are coming from!
This year (and very probably even never again) any action of the size and under the name CzechTek won’t be realized.
And these are the reasons:
• the gradual abolition of original ideas of freetekno
• parasitic behavior of subjects not connected to the scene (including major part of visitors themselves)
• disability and reluctance to respect elementary principles of behavior in a shared space
😥
its a desition of a collective of soundsystem and i personally think it makes sense.
they see the trend is going like in france and as we see the problems there also regardign the fact that the cz republic isnt really up for negociation, they want to keep it real and small.
i found it quiet abusive the last years and we really have to ask ourselve if we want quality or quantity !!
i am sure there are many things happen this year in cz republic, nothing is lost, but times went on and i find it pretty forward from them to react before it is to late.
it is not only about commercialisation, it is also important for the rest of their year in cz. the population doesnt really understand that they have to pay via taxes the amusement of them, mostly cause they have proper social problems to sort out which are more important. so what happens is that they get shitty report in the press and this cause that they have less support from the population when it comes to all the other parties they do the rest of the year.
i am hapy about this also cause it shows a behave that france is missin actually: ” yes we know its crap and thats not what freeparty is on about, cause we cant claim autonomous zones and in the same time asking for infrastructure ( that only the place, toilets, cleanign after , security forces etc ) BUT we love to have it fat and loud, so we go fro it! “
i am sure they are sad as well but in longterm it is for the better. their state is not yet liberal enough to do it francestyle
“therefore only the real party people would be there not those that don’t know what it is really all about..” Quote
Know what u meen but everyone has to start somewhere not many of us are born into partys. Surely ‘commercial’ people or whatever being introduced into the seen is a positive thing. In most cases parties and the people u meet at parties have a positive effect on you and makes you more open minded person. In my opinion the more diverse the crowd the better thats what makes parties so brilliant, they bring together all sections of youth culture and society in an open and happy enviroment and in most cases it works and everyone gets along. Chavs and hippies dancing side by side, where else do you see that? Fuck elitism, arn’t parties about not giving a fuck about where your from or what u look like and just havin it. Understand it would b shit if the scene got commercialised but to b fair I don’t think this will ever happen, if anything parties are getting more underground, don’t you agree? :group_hug
i don’t think it’s about elitism. i think it’s about people who don’t give a shite about the party or the people who make it happen taking the piss
thanks for the clarifications liaphin. It is a shame, but also a good thing that the CZ ravers have enough foresight to stop before something worse happens. and to preserve their local scene.
Ironically, despite my very “internationalist” view on life and being able to understand three European languages, I have never attended a rave outside the United Kingdom – although TBH I’d prefer to attend a small free party as a part of a European holiday with a few friends, rather than a teknival. Even here in England I prefer the smaller (up to about 1000 people) parties..
i can pretty much totally see where the dudes commin from tbh. if u organise an event as big as czechtek and the atmosphere is bangin, thats wat u want. jus a fucking huge long party full of ppl who u would want to chat to and have a gd time with. to then organise the party again jus to have the type of ppl appear which the party scene attempts to escape from, suddenly the whole idea of it seems tarnished and if it keeps going it could only get more and more hyped by the media, and more commercialised. finish on a good note i say! at least with an event which has been as great as that.. raaa

czech free festival – open invitation for all free artists, performers etc..
“we did it 94 95 96 . 97 . 98 99 2K 2k1 2k2 2k3 2k4 2k5 2k6 … but next year ? … rave to east !

welcome !
i think it is important to realize that even tho we are in europe and the sene here is really connected, we dont have to miss to think of the actual situation of the countries. czech has a different history and different development. the scene there is as well grown so much cause it really IS a alternative for them to the consumeristic other way of having fun, basically get drunk over there.
the scene would be massive enough to menace the state for more rights as the frenchies did, just the difference that the politicians here in france are really different and i wouldnt count on that this tactic works somewhere else. nation of revolutionaires ? pas encore, but still there is idea of liberty and freedom, much different to the cz republic !
JUST LETS HOPE SARKOZY WONT WIN THE ELECTIONS the 6th of may.
if you ever want to come partying here mate, let me know. i am located in paris and flights are cheap from london….
i would happyly recomment you a nice littel free !!
even tho i am sure you would love the upcoming french tek. the illegal one, cause it will less huge, much nicer for the actual seperation of the french scene…many points that mae this one special in comparison to the years before 🙂
in germany we say, i translate in sense: you better stop on the top !!
meaning: better stop when something is the best, after it can only become shit !!
🙂
