it’s often perciened as a cliche
but this video clip, to my ond, shows that there was more colour, and more freaky dancing at early raves than the fre parties of today
anyone caught wearing a purple boiler suit would get slated
and for why?

I’ve heard rumours the guy in the purple boiler suit is actually Bottrop on SJ!
TBH although production values of raves and music today are way better due to technology; I do think the atmosphere was slightly better during some parts of the 90s.
IMO this is more because wider society was more optimistic and less insecure.
There were the good things of globalisation such as technology; but not such things as competition (from other countries) for the sort of jobs young ravers do during the week; also there was more acceptance of raves because even the people who didn’t like them were happier in their lives and not so bothered to complain about them.
People had the peace of mind to enjoy themselves without so much paranoia and mistrust, even if they were using drugs etc..
Life in the 21st century (particularly in the wake of worsening global conflict) is a lot harsher….
not for me
in the early 90’s there was a massive global economic recession, and the area I live in was hit hard… many more young people than today were homeless (part of the reason why so many people lived on the road)
in my area there’s now full employment and although houses / rent are sky high, homelessness in Exeter is a choice in most cases

perhaps there are regional differences (bear in mind a lot of office/call centre work from SE and Eastern England has moved to SW England and Wales in the last 10 years!) but its not just jobs etc..
People (even the poorer ones) may have more money today but life is less fun; there is more pressure and competition at every corner, and less time to enjoy yourself.
to keep your job as well today now means working longer hours – particularly to compete with the new immigrants who are hungrier for the work and will do those evenings/weekends etc (and thus often wrestle away work from those who value their free time more)
and because rents and mortgage payments are going up these swallow up spare cash…
So many more people I know are working evenings and weekends as well as their normal Monday to Friday work and this is seriously impacting the time they have to do anything else. Often its the same company “adapting to business needs” – particularly with customers wishing to do business on Sundays because they are themselves working during the week..
The jobs which get offshored to other countries don’t come back; as the power of the market means it is impossible bring the work back to Britain without raising prices and losing market share.
Add to this the worries about war, global conflict etc (particularly as the anger on our streets is spilling over in to real acts of violence such as terrorism and reprisal racist attacks); its hardly surprising people afre feeling insecure..
Are they using those colour filters GL was talking bout in another thread?
it looks like the colours have been enhanced or corrected slighly (or simply shot with a 3 CCD camera) – and the best bits cherrypicked from hours of footage – but this is usually always done when editing a video aimed at the music/youth audience.
I think what also Globaloon meant is that people were more adventurous with their fashions and behaviour at unlicensed parties in the early 90s – now people are actually more reserved.
Back then they didn’t sit in the cars as much either!

think id agree with that despite not bein around that long ago. ive seen people having the piss ripped out of them purely for the way they were dancin. tbh they did look comedy, but thats no reason to make the person, who was even younger than me and probably took it to heart, feel insecure when they were merely expressin themselves. i wish ppl would loosen up a bit.
yep – what I find different is that although there are way more multiriggers today there is more “factionalisation” of ravers into different followings associated with rigs, styles of music, fashions etc…
and a lot more “posing” or trying to look “hard/cool” than in the 90s when you got mashed and didn’t give a fuck (in a good way, not like being abusive/lairy to people etc)
a lot of people though deal with their own insecurities by trying to pass it on to others as well..
Dance like nobody’s watchin’
Express yourself to the max
Very often I do it on purpose so them 1z sitting around getting p*ssed get some sort of entertainment, cos I bet if they wernt posse’d up they’d be up there giving it some thereselves.:bounce_g:
“Lets be having ya!”
Theres always next time…
i,m still loving it after 17 years .its no better or worse than back then in my eyes .i,ve yet to come across better entertainment .keep on banging out the madness all u rigs .
good one
same here
good point of conversation, i find, is purple boiler suits
it was a revolution of innovation and cultures melting
the DIY style is still the dominant element, obv
and when my mate phil wears his ‘space invaders’ boiler suit he does get some funny looks… wearing something like that is a good way to check people’s prejudice… a bit like having a foreign sounding surname (but that’s another subject for another forum)
Its not a ‘Boiler suite’ its what was know in the 90’s as a shell suit…one of them fashions that I personally didn’t get into.
:crazy_dru
even though, a purple one is still pretty extreme…
