what do you guys wanna see, and at what kind of budget? give us some ideas, so that we can see what we can work out 🙂
what kind of thing would be ideal for those running systems? want your input!
s’all opinion i suppose, but me?
i like mahoosive rigs like skan. scoops look good. throw in some rear an side firing naughty folded horns. oh an i hate bought cabs. jus look so fake somehow-so you cant go wrong with classic wooden home made dealies.
anyway like i say its all opinion.
where’s you folks thinking of doing shindigs anyways?
Me personally I’d prefer quality over quantity. I don’t necessarily mean expensive kit because you can achieve quality with cheaper kit as long as it’s matched right and is run correctly. At the end of the day, if you are using it for fields and warehouses then you don’t want really expensive kit unless you are happy with the possibility that it might get taken off you for a unspecified amount of time.
If I was you I’d still plan to spend about £4000 – 5000 though for a nice little 5 – 6k system. Don’t forget about all the extras like processing kit, racks, leads, straps, scaffold or table for decks etc.
Super loud systems are fun but can attract attention easily.
I wouldn’t advise putting scoops and horns together as it’s near on impossible to correct the phase issues that arrise from the scoops.
A good piece of advice is to stick to one type of cabinet for each frequency band. I’d start off with a nice 3 way system that you can build upon and possibly make 4 or 5 way in the future. Nice and simple. Don’t go mixing all different types of cabs together that are trying to create the same sound.
I know this is a bit bias but you really wouldn’t go wrong with buying this:

It may look small but it will piddle over the gigantic piles of mismatched speakers you see in some of the rigs. Can arrange demos if needed.
wrong end of the stick here.. i mean what kind of systems would you guys like to see on offer :groucho: ogga obviously doesnt want to see any though, lol
what do you mean ‘on offer’? do you mean ‘for sale’?
yep. if the people who are into running their own systems tell us what they like, then it gives me more idea of what to work out 🙂
Well, what I said is still relevant then.
Although if you are talking about it from a sales perspective (unless you are sepcialising) you need to provide a wide range of manufacturers and system styles to suit a variety of requirements and budgets.
Yeah but it’s not all about being anal and geeky about it, ignorance is bliss a lot of the time. The best part is just being in front of the system and enjoying it. A soundsystem does not make a party but it helps.
yeah defo
i jus obsessively draw rigs an i jus find scoops pleasing to the eye. especially the ol’ double scoops.
sj did make me realise that it’ll jus confuse the situation tho, having various bass speakers. and that there are no benefits to a double scoops.
better to stick to one type is it not.
hey dont get me wrong though. still know absoloutely jack shit!
hold up, hold up.
jus read that! (you cheeky monkey, you!)
like i said. big rig. homemade cabs.
(but yeah skip the scoops-bust the ol’ rear-firering horns)
biotech? ya cant fault that. can you?
bollocks to it i’ll get my coat
(better left to the pro’s eh?)

NOW I understand mate. You run a sales outlet. Things are a little bit clearer now.
It’s difficult to say exactly what I’d want cabinet wise because we generally build most of our stuff although for Mid Tops we would look for cabs such as the Martin W8C (which we are after at the moment), Turbo Flashlights/Highlights or Funktion 1 Res range. Incidently I would never look to buy these cabinets brand new and would always be looking for 2nd user cabs at this level due to the hefty price. Have you thought about doing a ‘used’ section and buying from existing touring/install companies?
As for amps it would be the usual names: QSC, Lab Gruppen, Chevin, Crown etc I notice a huge interest in the value for money amp range though like C-Mark, Peavy, Yamaha etc.
Processing: XTA, BSS, Klark, Sonifex (behringer must surely sell well but I’m not sure about the mark up?)
I hope it goes well for you mate. Looks like a good shop and you are a helpful chap.
The Prodigy’s live rig knocks me oot every time :groucho:

WOOF!!
Other than that Systems Anon’s is well impressive, and Club:Blart’s huge array ay them Mackie active boxes is awesome, problem being when the bass kicks in on a track you can’t see what you’re doing with the mixer or read the labels on yer records cos your eyeballs are vibrating so much that everything just sort of smears and blurs. And they’ve nae monitors which makes tight mixing pretty hard.. though with that amount of sub bass am no sure if anyone listening can actually tell. :bounce_fl
Radar have a fairly hefty rig as well.
