  • So apparently Dubya “got his ass kicked” at the midterm elections – as did many other Republicans

What will this mean for the USA and its wider policy though? I’m not sure exactly how the US political system works either as although in the UK we have local council elections more regularly than general elections a “midterm” would be equivalent to making everyone vote again for their MP (but keeping Tony Blair)..

Interested to hear from our American users as well what their views are on this….

What it boils down to is he will be a ‘lame duck president’ as he has lost control of both the the senate and the house of representatives [so he will have difficulty getting anything they dont like passed].

On the topic, when asked whether they would impeach Bush the Democrats replied in horrified tones ‘Then we would have to put up with Cheney’ :laugh_at::laugh_at::laugh_at:

Also means to get money for anything will require explaining himself (senate has the cheque book in the US as I understand it). Should make Bush’s life plenty difficult…Also means he has to listen to what others have to say, instead of riding roughshod over any objections safe in the knowledge his party will vote for anything he does…Bit like our own PM at the last election here in a way (whose very slim majority now stops any of those tuition fee/Iraq war type shenanigans).:bounce_g::bounce_g::bounce_g::bounce_g:

Good that Rumsfeld is gone though (sing it: “Ding dong, the witch is dead…”) That really made my week:laugh_at::laugh_at::laugh_at::laugh_at::bounce_fl:bounce_fl:bounce_fl:bounce_fl

Ding Dong the wicked witch is deadraaaraaa
