I don’t like the idea of it – particularly the fact that the cops have discretion whether or not to use it and I can see middle englanders getting away but youths always being printed…
but unfortunately I can see why it has come to this…
“back in the day” when we went raving half of my mates didn’t give a flying fuck for traffic laws..
Some people I knew would twoc motors to get to parties; I didn’t hang around with these people much as even then I knew it was wrong –
but other more inventive (and slightly more ethical) people I knew would get an old banger, get it going again with scrapyard parts and we’d use it as a rave vehicle!
OK this way it didn’t deprive any “normal decent person” of their own transport, and my mates wouldn’t do drive offs or steal from the filling station (we did have some integrity) but this vehicle was unregistered, untaxed, no MOT and half the time the person driving it had only a provisional license and had learnt to drive from their mates in car parks and after late night sessions.
And the drivers were often somewhat less than sober. TBH looking back at it all I am sometimes amazed that I am still alive, in one piece, and a free man…
cops regularly stopped us but we would give all sorts of false names and addresses, and if there wasn’t enough resource to check things out properly we’d just get sent on our way
So I expect its the cops and wider society clamping down now because of the years of people blatantly taking the piss…
