When i was 13/14 i was really into skating, as were all of my friends in my local village, built our own ramps and used to set up a make shift skatepark outside the school.
After a few weeks of us doing nothing but skate at the week ends the police showed up as there had been lots of complaints about us making noise, after another week or so, we were told that we were no longer allowed to skate on the streets after 6pm (we all got in from school at 5:35)
so we asked the council if we could build a sk8park, amazingly they said yes and that we’d only have to raise 1/3 of the £20,000 they reconed it would cost to put a 1/4 pipe a grind rail up
so we raised all the money we needed and gave it over to the concil a few weeks down the line we, nothing had happend, we asked around an we were told that these things take time, although we still wern’t allowed to skate on the streets
so after a few months still no sign of anything and we had pretty much lost intrest in sk8ing as we had all now found weed & alcohol & mindless vandalisim & theft & all the other fun things to do in a small english town
a few years on now havin put through most of the windows of our old hangout and covered it in spray paint we saw some local concil members leavin there meeting, we asked them what had happened to the plans for a sk8park an they said that it had been an unfeasable project and also all the money had been spent on the new cricket pavillion
and we still weren’t allow to sk8 on the street
after a good few years of ravin, drug use an doing noting but sit infront of the pc/ps2 playin games or making tunes + time at work spent infront of the pc ive found myself in pretty bad shape & fitness, maybe if i had been allowed to sk8 i still would and would spend all my money on trucks, bearings and trips 2 peterborough’s sk8park instead of weed, mdma and trips to the nears free party
ah wel, the rich bstards who wudnt let me sk8 infront of their house knew what was best for me and the years of eggs being thrown at their house must have been beter than kids skating past
That’s such a sad story m8 🙁 aww
so after a few months still no sign of anything and we had pretty much lost intrest in sk8ing as we had all now found weed & alcohol & mindless vandalisim & theft & all the other fun things to do in a small english town
and the councils then wonder why there is a youth crime problem in East Anglia, and why no one when they reach voting age bothers with local elections :you_crazy
I think some of the “community” crews here tried to raise money for a skatepark in Suffolk/Norfolk but had the same problems…
the local sk8rs raised money for one locally and then it was built miles away [literally] from the center of town so they cant get to it without a car :you_crazy:you_crazy
and most skaters aren’t even old enough to drive… sometimes I think that Britain is still in the Victorian era (or has gone back there) in terms of dealing with children and young people…
It makes absolutely no sense :you_crazy
By the time the kids are old enough to drive they become boy racers instead [they might have remained sk8rs had the park been better sited] and are a serious source of grumbling about the noise they make…..
There was a bmx and motocross track in the region and it was shut due to noise complaints [it was open only a few days a week] and now those kids have no where to ride and they are breaking the law [well some do] by riding where they should not [which causes far more problems than a few noise complaints]
There is not much for the kids to do apart from ‘behave in an anti-social manner’ about here after schools kick out as they are not welcome in most places and anywhere they are welcome has had its funding cut :you_crazy
Seems like the older generation is completely intolerant of any noise at all [not made by themselves] but I dont see them fitting their lawnmowers with silencers [and the noise they make is amazing btw] or being considerate about the times they are using them…..
A bit of live and let live wouldnt go amiss 💡 and keep the kids in places where they might make some noise but would not be out there causing damage etc as described by meltdown….:you_crazy
haha reading this thread… fuck all has changed.
the council recently sold the entire upstairs of our youth club, which ran a youth radio and contained all the equipment and space… it’s now all offices for let.
the radio was open to anyone in secondary school and beyond and was a youth project which worked… some kids got really into it, and it did save a few of my brother’s mates… kicked outta school, people who had been my age getting into coke and violence, vandalism, harder and harder drugs…. some of them got regular radio shows and were trained by visitors from professional radio stations.
it offered an alternative. i was involved in the radio last yeah, and i was trained by the people who the scheme had first helped.
but no. the council decides a few offices are more important. and then complains when stuff is smashed up each and every night.
they are fucking idiots i swear!
:head_bang
mate if they took funds you’ve raised, sue the fuckers for fraud
contact the council’s ombudsman and get the slimey fuckers out of power and get someone better in :ar15:
they cannot do this sort of shit and get away with it if people stand up to them
