  • What was New About New Labour ?

A Goverment that came to Power canvasing to be a New Labour Party in its election campaign saying “It is time for change, it is time for Labour”, in my opinioun has done very little to create a more equel society.

Further more, I feel that if they were a real Party of change, then they might have invested more money into enviromentaly freindly energy and more sustainable fuels than fosil fuel like oil.

I cant help but that all the money and effort spent on a largly unwhanted and reportedly unessorsery War in Iraq, could have been spent on finding more sustainable enviromentaly freindly alternitives.

we might have got to the same place as we have in Iraq……………….

That may be the case, but I dont feel that there was anything particularlie New about New Labour, other than more new acts passed through parliment and laws effecting peoples freedoms than any other Goverment has passed for a long time.

I am not particularlie, politicaly minded, though always traditionaly supported labour my self, though never botherd to vote last time evan in the local council elections.

So Called New Labours, “New Agenda”, is not new at all I new sociobly liberating “left” agendas, but some of it more those traditionl scars of the right.

The So called “New Deal”, for unemployed, was certonly not a new concept and similar undermind and underpaid schemes were about in the seventies. From such employment scemes like this that I have been on, I have felt seriously undermind as a free creative imagintive human being and twice when on the ETF, have been kiked off for complaing about the Health and Saftey standards of such Placements. Such undermined people on these plasements, as myself was, have no legal wright, representation or voice and our totaly dismisable without a fair reasoning or confrontation. (I spent one christmas by my self, kicked of a placement for complaining about cramped workspace and poor air ventilation, only to be sanctioned and had no money to by freinds or family pressents with.) (Another time, I complained when a so called ETF Work Leader was breaking COSCH Regulations, I informed him that he shouldnt mix Bleach with Hydrogen Peroxide, and he kiked me off and I was sanctioned for it.) (Freinds and Family have had their skills undermined on so called training course through the YMCA, where they attend, or get sanctioned, only to find that whilst there, they are given nothing stimulating to do and very little suport or help for them in getting back to work).

There Is Nothing Good, New Or Safe, About the Nuclear Power Stations which New Labour has been trying to get, without Public consultation or enviromental research into cleaner and more enviromentaly freindly Electricity Generation.

    NOTHING

    Sorry, just having another Rant!

    RANT AWAY

Likwise, Trident is an old expensive and destructive legacy which we dont need. Its A shame our Goverment seems so whitless diplomaticaly, it feels it needs to break the NPT.

Lets face it – if they spent half the money spent on annoying other people in their own country on renewables we would be laughing – it would be an enormous budget compared to what is being spent now……:you_crazy

    they were conservative!

exactly … thatcher with a bigger majority :yakk:

The ‘new’ thing about New Labour was that they won an election (well, 3 elections).

And they were prepared to sacrifice their sacred cows/sell their mothers, to do it!

Question is, were New Labour conservatives better than Tory conservatives. I think they probably were, but it was a close call…they certainly weren’t socialists.

Its a pity there is no choice any more, maybe Gordon’s the man…:hopeless:

Anybody been watching Andrew Marr’s History of Modern Britain thing. Its excellent…highly recommended

RIP John Smith. he was the last best hope for this country to actually have some social values and he would have won the election

People who lived through the Thatcher years either loved it or hated it.

    I hated it.

I can’t understand how people can write Labour’s recent years in power off as no different to the Tories.

Without saying everything in the garden is rosie, this place, (the North East) is a lot different now to the 1980’s.

There were plenty of people in the Labour party who were quite happy to take the moral high ground in opposition, while watching the Tories run the country and fuck us over to the benefit of the south of England.

The difference with new Labour was that they were prepared to govern, for right and wrong, good decisions and bad ones.
