Take note, those of you who use Bebo for talking about parties – they are prepared to co-operate with the feds (and TBH why would or should they risk their business because some kids think the net is “above the law?”)
Police monitor web ‘fight clubs’
Police in Kent are using specialist officers to monitor certain internet websites in an effort to stop teenagers in the county from organising fights.Youths using social networking sites such as Bebo and Facebook are reported to have set up “fight clubs”.
According to one blog, a number of organised fights have been taking place in Brenchley Gardens, Maidstone.
Insp Ian Hall said: “We are concerned if any fights take place… we will deal with them in a positive manner.”
He said information about the organised fights had been passed to police by young people in Maidstone, and the offenders were being sought.
“We are using a whole range of methods in partnership with the local authority… to address this issue positively,” he said.
‘Pointless fight’
Charlie Kemp, who was in the park a few weeks ago when a fight took place, said it was horrible to watch.
“It seemed like a really pointless fight – as if people had organised it for fun.”
A statement from the website Bebo said “inappropriate or illegal communications were strictly forbidden”.
“Any posted content which we, the police or our public safety partners deem to contravene the law (or our terms of use) is immediately suspended and investigated.“
Facebook has a similar “content code of conduct”, which does not allow for any material to be posted “that would encourage or provide instructions for a criminal offence”.
