Worrying stuff. The sheer number of arrests does make it sound a lot more like a gang/vigilanté thing than an accident due to “kids playing with matches…/lighters” – reckon accelerant (petrol) must have been used to set a fire in this shite weather too..

I’ve been in squats where the local kids have busted out the windows with stones whilst people were still in there, and deliberately picked the rooms where girls were staying to drive them out.

In some areas I would always sit facing the windows and out of range of missiles/glass, you never know what might happen..

Fire crews have had to wait until the building is made safe before they can begin searching for any more bodies.

Post-mortem examinations have been carried out on the two bodies already found but more tests are needed to establish their identities.

surely the kids knew homeless people lived in there… if so, whats the motivations?! i dont understand why

i mean, we have set stuff alight when we were that age but never with people in it!

you dont need motivation, an hour where your bored, you have the right materials i.e. a lighter, right oppurtunity and no sense is enough

I expect all of us have lit stuff on fire for a “laugh”, but as boothy says most people do actually do some checking to make sure no one is gonna be seriously hurt..

plus if you look at the associated articles the people arrested aren’t all “kids..”

This sounds a bit more like locals actually, deliberately, wanting to burn out the squatters, probably out of envy they were getting a “free ride”, or maybe they thought there was “druggies” inside and wanted to get rid of them.

In my days with squatters although we never got firebombed the local kids would often try and break in and trash the squat, people would have bikes and other stuff nicked and dumped in the nearby canal if the place wasn’t properly secured..

When I was living in squatts,we had one time the house set on fire…

…it was due the local mafia not liking us kicking off furious musical nights for a ridiculous fee,their bars being empty during the same time!

When you’re a squatter,you often have to fight the whole world…chavs,mafia,crusty punks,police……..
