    http://uk.news.yahoo.com/pressass/20070815/tuk-police-boss-urges-public-drinks-ban-6323e80_1.html

i reckon its a good idea would stop allot of the violence in towns an stuff also owuld stop the young kid drunks who just causing trouble

i wouldnt mind either as i dont drink =]

It’s already illegal to drink in public in glasgow and a few other cities in Scotland..

in my old city (Reading) it was already banned in loads of places.. I think they are planning the same in Ipswich if they haven’t done already

it works to an extent but needs to be backed up by CCTV, enforcment and most importantly education/social training of better “moral values” (can’t think of a better word for this)

I started drinking at age 15/16 (and occasionally taking drugs), and yes I drunk in town and on street corners and other places… so did my mates – I don’t think its booze itself which is the problem but the rolling back of views we had in the 1980s that violence was a last resort rather than the first action

we did a bit of mischief but if an older person challenged us and what we was doing was blatantly wrong (like vandalism etc) we’d just make rude noises at them and take the piss a bit then leg it, even though we knew we could beat the bloke up we also realised that you’d have to be forever paranoid of the day the OB turn up round your house…

I always thought this was illegal already. :hopeless:

No it’s not.. in Edinburgh you can still walk and drink in the street and parks which u can’t do in Glasgow for example, although the police in Edinburgh do now have the powers to stop you from drinking in Public places if they think that you are going to cause a nuisance

You can get fined for drinking pertty much everywhere round where i live! to be honest i LOVE drinking and do it to much BUT i hate the drinking culture i do do silly things when drunk but all the violence ect i cant be fucked with! I think out of all the drugs alcahol is the best/worst a full on love hate relationship! I just wish people could could learn to chill and stop trying to prove sht to eachother like whos hardest ect!

where i live we can be ”moved on” if we are talking to neighbours on our own front doorstep thanks to a section 30 dispersal order (although we still risk the wrath of the law by talking) and that’s before we open a nice cold beer

1 person is a potential trouble maker
    2 is a conspiracy
    3 is a potential riot

    raaa

i want to close the road off and have an old fashioned street party… one of these years

bollocks mate. it’s older people’s fault we are gettin all this shit clampdown, ‘cos the older generation fucked up in the first place.

teenagers don’t need to be pissed to cause trouble. drinkin in public shouldn’t be made illegal ‘cos its one more law restrictin a laugh. i mean, walkin from a house party to a pub, with a can in your hand… what’s the harm in that?

its pissin me off is all these laws, drug detectors, smokin bans… nanny state innit. and tbh, the older generation who scoff and blame the “kids” are to blame themselves.

kids can’t help it if their parents are skagheads.

    boothy was a bit pissed

    :hiding:

ironic really, given what this thread is about.

Whats even more stupid is the idea of banning under 16s from drinking at home leaving parents open to prosecution if they let it go on at this rate, why not just do Judge Dredd style random house searches to find out what laws you are breaking. I don’t think banning things is the same as dealing with the problem properly. I think there are far more important issues to deal with that are leaving everybody fucked off with society, Blair’s only served to continue Thatchers strides towards a totalitarian society.
