modern politics in developed nations has become way more complicated than that

we had a lot of ideological conflict (and even civil strife) between socialism/communism and “classical liberalism” (i.e capitalism) from the 1970s to 1990s…

but particularly because of the influences of the global stock market and a backlash against trade union activity in the 1970s/80 certain things such as the acceptance of market capitalism and the privatisation of public utilities have now become commonplace to many mainstream political parties worldwide.

Most “socialist/left wng” parties have been pushed towards the centre merely to remain in power.

Now there are only subtle differences between “left wing” and “right wing” politics, for instance a “centre right party” might privatise a public body completely, whilst a “centre left” party may keep parts of it at least in public ownership.

The centre right parties, despite often claiming to be “libertarian” and “respecting individual freedom” tend to have traditionally harsher views on immigration and law and order (i.e social control) and are hostile towards public funded welfare provision and “subversive” activity such as raves/squatting – they are less likely to tolerate any form of drug use or activism (for instance it is a centre right party in Denmark spearheading the removal/normalisation of squatter communities at Ungdomshuset and Christiana).

    got this of a site…………….
While the 2007 Australian election reflects a wider political landscape than that of the US, Labor, under its present leadership, has edged closer to the Liberals than in any previous election. The Democrats and the Greens are now economically closer to traditional Labor, while Labor occupies territory closer to the Liberals of the 1980s. …………………..

However, the rightward and upward drift of the Liberals allows Labor to still claim considerable distance from them. Within Labor, of course, there are right-left tensions, as most off its members accept the neoliberal agenda with either resignation or enthusiasm. The Political Compass demonstrates that the One Nation party, popularly termed “extreme right”, owes its extremity more to its social policies than to its economic position.

Fucking Rudd, hes the lesser of two evils.

South park had it right, its a decision between a massive douche and a turd sandwich.
