  • lets say its not a total breakdown (this wouldn’t be allowed to persist for long as businesses would go apeshit) but this happened.

various problems due to peering agreements breaking down (these are how ISPs transmit data to one another) – this leads to to an eventual reduction in speed to 128/256k (about the minimum required for conventional businesses to work)

Stuff like torrents/youtube/streaming media starts being restricted and choked not through some overt “conspiracy” or censorship but simple commercial pressures (such as a rise in the cost of bandwidth?).

Sites like PV become just about accessible but slow, maybe your ISP or a big company might have a slightly faster “walled garden” site but what you could say on it or use it for was more closely controlled.

    How would you all cope?

      Not sure..

Have a lot of music on my PC and phone numbers to my friends..

Still have my kids and family

Think I’ll survive,I haven’t used the internet for very long anyway..

But I’ll miss you guys very much 😉

I could cope without the internet, would just find other things to fill my spare time.

:hiding: squeeek thats a scary thought….Mind you I dont use you-tube and others like it at all if I can avoid it and most of my net use is probably actually uploading web pages and stuff to servers….Losing the radiostreams would hurt though :hopeless:

I guess I’d do the things I spent more time on before I ‘found’ the internet as I am a late developer – it was really only last year or the year before – I think

I’d do much more work I’m sure on nights, read more books and actually go out shopping rather than online and ebay

I’d miss being able to find things out that I dont know quickly esp wikipedia

( as bets and arguments over who’s right would last for the usual days rather than minutes :laugh_at:)

and miss talking to random people on PV and sharing views but I can also do that with my ‘real’ friends..

I think I’d miss music streaming as its been good for me to hear ‘whats new’ and whats out there not ‘getting out ‘ on the scene as much as I’d like

yeah id miss radio streams and id have to buy a shit load of blank cds to put my newest tunes on and give them to m8s rather then just send them via the web …bummer i wouldn’t even be able to buy the cd’s online 😥

bear in mind I’m thinking of a slow reduction in servce/access (like a sort of rationing of bandwidth) rather than the Internet completely and suddenly disappearing one day

Stuff like forums would still just about work, but slower and a few more random connection drops, its would only be the bandwidth hogs like streaming that would get canned..

I’d certainly miss the music streaming (I expect many others would as well, and there would be a resurgence in band II (FM) radio piracy outside London) but could easily cope with ISDN-speed broadband and waiting a couple of extra seconds for some websites.

i’d like it. a month without the internet might just force more people into the great outdoors to av a laugh face to face

      go back to cave painting

it will be a bit wierd if it all goes pear-shaped tho, will we look back at these years of free access as the haydays we didn’t appreciate at the time?

yeah i all ways say to my m8s we should go back to the days of the first market tradeing or summing like that .. cave men is not a bad idea tho .. alltho i dont fancy fighting the lions off for my foodraaa
