Hi folks, I’ve acquired quite a decent laptop and want to connect it to my decks so i can record my vinyl onto cd’s, Can anyone tell me what sort of software/hardware i’d need for this? 😉
youll need some sort of usb pre amp interface thingy like: http://www.pcupgrade.co.uk/productdetails.asp?ProductID=1194&categoryid=278
or if you have a phono preamp then take an output from that into the line in of your soundcard and use audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net (free) to record it.

i used a free program called wavepad before my old screen broke, gotta get a new one now. it’s well easy to use and good quality depending on your hardware.
also i got a terratec xfire 6 interface and soundcard im about to put up on ebay if your interested. ill have pics tommorrow.
although ive just remembered you got a laptop!!! :weee: so nevermind! if ne one else wants it ill post the link tomoz.
to plug your decks into your computor .. you need a wire phono to mini jack … most basic way of doing it … oh and a sound card ..(hardwear) … you can add shit like a pre amp/per eq ect .. if you like .. but its not esentual .. you can get software to do that …. wave pad is free .. but a bit gay .. .. best free software for recording is …(other that illigal torrents..) audasidy … spelling is wrong .. but i will try find it and link it for you …. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ ..it’s fucking ausome for a free program .. it does loads of shit and if very relyable ..
Easiest way to connect the hardware would be to use a mixer (which I assume you have with your decks) – this will give you a line level signal for your laptop line in (the phono signal from a turntable needs a voltage pre-amp to bring it up to line level – it will be too low otherwise, and the sound will be horrible). You can also get a dedicated USB box with a built in pre-amp if necessary.
As for software – any audio editing program pretty much (audacity, wavepad, sound forge, wavelab etc). All you need to do is be able to record to 16bit 44.1KHz wav and normalise to max out the signal level after recording which all of the above software will do no problem….
hey im new to this site, and new to the djing thing
im thinkin of gettin a 3ch mixer second hand ..dont know wat brand but is 3channle good?
