Arrests made at illegal rave

Police swooped on an illegal rave near Thetford in the early hours – the second such event to be disrupted in a week.

Patrol officers had reported convoys of vehicles building up in the area, which led to a large number of police units and the force helicopter being dispatched to woodland around Feltwell.

About 400 people were discovered playing amplified music off Fire Ride 48 at about 2am.

Within an hour, officers attended the scene and were able to negotiate and immediately stop the event.

The surrounding area was sealed and officers prevented a “substantial” number of other people and vehicles gaining access.

A large quantity of both sound and lighting equipment, and a number of vehicles, were seized and arrests made in connection with the alleged possession and supply of controlled drugs and failing to stop for police.

Other revellers have been reported for prosecution for offences including road traffic matters.

Chief Insp Mike Brown said: “Last night’s police activity was part of an ongoing operation to address concerns raised legitimately by law abiding citizens of the disruption and damage caused by such illegal music events.

“For the second weekend, good intelligence and pro-active policing has enabled us to move in and disrupt an unlicensed musical event. This robust stance will continue and I encourage members of the community to support this by passing to police any information which points towards the potential for such an event to take place.”

the harsh reality is as far as ravers and attitudes are concerned there really isn’t that much difference between East Anglia and SE England.

I’ve seen all this stuff happen 7-8 years ago in SE England particularly along Berks/Bucks/Oxon. The SE England crews caned the Ridgeway (a long track which goes through SE England) in exactly the same way as Thetford Forest, and got clamped down on in a similar manner (roadblocks, surveillance, rigs being confiscated).

All that has happened is that due to Norfolk’s relative remoteness, smaller police force strengths, and the stubborness of the ravers, parties were left alone for some years until they got to a stage where they were causing genuine problems to the locals who have demanded action, hence this latest clampdown…

the only reason SE Englands remaining crews are a bit more clued up is because many of them also learnt the hard way (and even today many counties there are on full zero tolerance)

I can’t find the article but I read that Jim May (of TV zero tolerance fame) has been.is about to be transfered to Norfolk.

I heard other rumours that Jim May had reached retirement age, although this would not stop him working as a civilian consultant…

there was actually a press release dated 15th Feb on Norfolk constabulary website warning ravers that they were going to do this and why the clampdown was in effect – I guess people “didn’t want to read the bad news” even when it was staring them in the face :you_crazy

another problem is that its not actually possible to party outside Norfolk as all the other counties got rinsed a few years back and because of this the cops will work together across force boundaries now (or even with SE England forces if need be)

The home office spent a billion quid and roasted 3 coppers alive with radiation to get the airwave radios working precisely so they could co-ordinate “multi force deployments” to shut down such things as illegal raves..

do you think it would work if they quitened down ffor a while though i was talking to a girl on the bus this morning who went to this one and she was saying that they turned them away before they even got there.

Norfolk was the last area of the Southern/Eastern UK to get clamped down on and to be fair it did seem like the rest of society actually cut ravers some slack for a few years

Its not just the feds who are complaining but also the farmers and locals, plus the bad image ravers have given themselves..

there are people now on the scene who seem to have started taking drugs regularly soon after leaving middle school and it has affected their emotional development to the point they have become selfish and impulsive to the point they can be dysfunctional/anti-social (vandalising stuff, not helping clear up, being rude to locals etc)

my older friends from round this way who used to do parties have given up years ago because they could see all this coming

there was all sorts of rum things happening here, livestock being harrassed, farm machinery broken etc, also people would video the parties and put them on youtube and not always the good bits – people stumbling around on ket, smashing up stuff etc..

its got to the stage where the rest of society (not just the cops) feel bullied/initimdated by the raves and demanded that the police take action – last year there was people writing to their MPs etc..

actually exactly the same thing happened in South East England from 2003-2006 after a boom in parties.. seems that people don’t realise what they had till its gone..

to many dicks with bad attitudes attending in the UK imo. things changed for the worse with d&b and ketamine.

both these things were around long before the problems started with Norfolk – that area (and SE England) was once one of the friendliest places to party in the entire UK (last year there was still elements of that euphoria..)

I fear its a lot simpler than that. The area just became a victim of its own success, people were getting away with it every weekend and took it for granted, started thinking they were above the law…

very true and now the time has come ‘zero tolerance and they still think they can party norfolk i really dont understand them :you_crazy

there now seems to be a new Forestry chap dealing with the media and he’s even more clued up about how raves work (at least the economics of them) than the last one, and is ready with counter-arguments to the usual “justifications” for raves..

they do know a fair bit about observing wildlife and its behaviour though (and dealing with pest species)

that hall party what went royally pear-shaped doesn’t help either…

lets hope the north can learn from the mistakes you talk about GL, unfortunately certain manchester crew has aggravated a bit last yeah afaik.

however yorkshire in particular and further north has no particular clampdown, but i think we need to be careful seein the clampdown the south have had!

people may say its inevitable eventually but i’m not so sure

depends on the attitude of the crews and party goers. just dont take the piss and treet the old bill with respect if they turn up.
