Reclaim The Streets, London, 1996, M41
that was cool. were they planting trees in the street under that thing.
that was you pulling down your tidywhities wasnt it lol
It was a great party, lots of happy memories. Nearly got nicked trying to remove a bounce castle from the police as they weren’t in a very playful mood!
The best thing was how the police were out witted without it turning into a full battle. Other reclaim the streets just turned into a riot alienating lots of people.
Was my mate with the Kango under the ballerinas dress, hes really good at digging especially under runways :laugh_at:
My bird at the time got whacked off the old bill that day. A couple of years later we done one with Desert Storm in Manchester and that kicked off and alot of people ended up in court.
Whatever happened to RTS parties?
PS, ring me tommorow morn to remind me about the truck lol
i went to a smallish one in totnham a few years ago … then the after party in the old pleasure rooms/laberinth must of been 4-5 years ago tho not heard much since then realy
i havnt lived
was involved in Manchester RTS foe a wee while in 96. went to em in london, sheffield & leeds as well. think i got a caution for clibing up the traffic lights in Leeds a spreying the green and yellow lights red :laugh_at:
looks like a phat party, unfortuantly, i think i use my car to much to go to one of them and id feel like a hipocrite, but driving my car to london
RTS still exist.
They did an event in London as recently as last year.
its a bit more difficult for them to justify the 1990s level of “direct action” in London in 2008 though – times have changed, the elected council and mayor has had the balls to restrict motor traffic, give free travel to teenagers and to spend a lot of cash for encouraging cycling, all despite intense opposition.
But that does at least show that their efforts in raising awareness did have some positive effect.
Perhaps they should now turn their attention to the smaller provincial towns, although these days it seems more and more people are getting on the “save the environment” bandwagon anyway…
I think like most activist groups they are disassociating themselves from illegal raves as the scene has changed, its hardly an eco-friendly thing now with all those who will travel 200+ miles to the other side of the country to do drugs just because they have created a backlash/zero tolerance in their own ends!
I cycled from Reading to West London to get to a rave on a couple of occasions (a certain industrial estate which I’m sure the Thames Valley ravers are familiar with ). Its not that far, but Knowl Hill is a bit of a mare on the way back on a comedown. I don’t think I would have passed a urine test though :laugh_at:
when i went to this one the old enterance to the pleasure rooms had been bricked up and me and my m8 where standing out front confused trying to find a way in … a police car pulled up and stoped us … we where like “oh shit” … but they mearly stoped us to give us directions … “if you looking for the rave .. it’s down there and on the left” they said .. hahaha …. (the after party was semi legal so all was well) :weee:
are you on about the ‘hacienda squat’? i dont recall anything in the ‘pleasure rooms’ in fact i dont know the pleasure rooms at all… There used to be the OKaisional cafe which was a squat collective that radomly squated buildings and turned them into squat bars and party venues. Thats all finished as well…
na this was in london …. tottanam …. the pleasurerooms used to be laberinth iirc … was a place where squat systems use to use alot but was a lisenced venue i think … don’t think it’s there any more tho 😥
