what is going on in Britain is a lot more subtle than many realise and exists because Britain is not a secular country. it is extremely unlikely full Sharia law will ever exist in any country which recognises the UN as it breaches human rights laws.
Even in many Islamic countries it is either only applied to Muslim communities or used to beef up existing local council laws, particularly restricting access to “un islamic” activities to Muslims. It is only enforced in some developing nations which adopt isolationist policies to the rest of the world or are run by warlords anyway.
but back to England – The Church of England (as the Lords Spiritual) have direct power to the lawmaking process and have had this for hundreds of years.
For one thing, its hardly surprising other religious groups want a piece of this power, as their communities gain economic power in England. our nation(s) were after all racked by bitter conflicts between Catholic and Protestant christians which still simmer under the surface.
Also, the C of E realises that increasing power for any one religion is in fact power to all, as it strengthens the mind set of people once again following organised religion when society is becoming less religious
it is not Jihad or Al-quaeda anyone should be paranoid about. our cops/feds aren’t stupid and they are gonna make sure angry young men do not cause excessive risk to the market economy, whether they are brown, black, yellow or white.
the real threat is when Middle England and conservative Islam find common ground and that is really what is happening today.
its not even the gods they are interested in but getting everyone to go to church or mosque or temple rather than raves or football, and to justify the return of “old style” moral codes for everyone whatever their colour.
both Daily Mail readers and extremist religious types would love to see death penalty for drugs (or worse sentences).
what is happening is the religious right wing are stirring the pot to make the young working class hate one another and become divided, whilst rather than “different laws” what they are looking to get is a legal structure where religion can also be used once again to control people whatever their original ancestry may be.
