The powers that be have banned Samurai swords! Fucking wankers! :you_crazy
Seems they are still allowing the sale of real samurai swords or genuine folded steel swords made by craftsmen in Japan. It’s just the cheap imitation ones that are getting banned.
However, it’s a little unclear as to what the law is. From what I can make out it will be illegal to import and sell them but they are very sketchy on the specifics of owning a sword. It says that flouting the law can get you a £5000 fine and 6 months in jail but for importers/sellers it could be 7 years.
This seems a bit confusing to me because they don’t actually mention it’s illegal to own one but it seems as if they are hinting that’s the case.
proper swords and antique swords are ok. you can still sell them if your a dealer, collector or martial arts trainer and there keped in your home.

I know man, I’ve only really skimmed through it but i’m confused as i own one. I’ve never taken it out and it’s just for show but does this mean i have to get rid of it? Cost me a couple ton as well so if they think i’m doing that they can kiss my ringo!:weee:
your ok keeping it just dont take it to the pub with you.:laugh_at:
Sweet mate, I shall remember not to do that! :weee:
In one breath the BBC say this:
The Home Office has confirmed plans to outlaw the weapons in England and Wales
..and this…
The proposal is expected to stop short of banning genuine Japanese swords held by collectors or genuine enthusiasts.
Which suggests that owning an imitation sword it outlawed, but then they say this:
Under the proposals, the government will ban the import, sale and hire of Samurai swords from April 2008.
Which seems as if it’s only the trade that will be outlawed.
Confused..

You can still sell them to collectors iff your a dealer (i think) Auction houses can still sell them also. Its the ones held in collections that are ok the genuine ones.
I tryed to sell 2 deactivated revolvers a year or so ago and it was a minefield trying to find out what the law conserning them was. I was at auction last summer with a policeman who was buying decativated AKMs/47s he even bought a trailer mounted Maxim gun. The law on replicas/deactivated guns is only that your not alowed to cary them in public without permition (ie sending them to auction/dealer valuation).
good .. my m8 used to sell them cheep pieces of shit and not only did he make a few peoples lives a misery .. they were shit quality … broke with one or two proper hits to a piece of wood … :yakk:
To be fair, most of the imitation ones are only meant for ornamental purposes. Some of them have visible imperfections in the blade. Chopping wood with an ornamental samurai sword is not the one. 😉
yeah my m8 has one at the moment that some one gave him for a half of cock lol .. it’s fucking shit .. he thought it was worth like £200 and was going .. “look what i got!!!” ..took great plesure in telling him it was worth about £15 lol .. but yeah there very flimsy .. but people do sell them as real wepons .. and they can do some real dmg .. and i think its good there banned as any one who wants to pay £200+ for a samari sword is alot less likely to use it imo …
Oh for sure. Not much good at chopping wood (although the real ones aren’t exactly ideal for that either) but chopping through flesh could deal some nasty damage.
Only time i get my sword out is to oil it. Did chop through a melon once tho, that was a laugh! Was pissed and bit’s of melon went everywhere, Poor little guy! :hopeless:
a friend was murdered, randomly, in the street by a guy with a samurai sword about 3 years ago, in Sidmouth
the local paper has been running a campaign to have them banned ever since

Yeah i heard about that. As if samurai swords are to blame, i mean had he used a kitchen knife would they be banned? Absolutely ridiculous! Respects to the deceased and all but it wasn’t the sword that killed him (Although it played a part) it was the nutcase! :you_crazy
