n 13th June 2008 protestors halted a coal train carrying fuel for Drax power station in Yorkshire, the single biggest source of CO2 in the UK. Dressed in white overalls and canary outfits, the protestors used safety signals to stop the train on a bridge overlooking the power station, before climbing on board and dumping coal off onto the tracks.

Now, this action is significant for a few reasons. Firstly, it demonstrates that the Climate Camp bunch have got nerve and daring, and that their planning is absolutely meticulous. Secondly, it says very loudly We Are Serious.

    Leave it in the ground

    fair play.

    Fucking idiots. :you_crazy

    Well thought up publicity stunt.

Ha ha my dad works at drax. Do you think they know there’s a 3 month stock pile at the power station?

Fucking numptys what they gonna run the country on?

windmills? Every time someone trys to put one up the locals object and it gets scrapped.

Nuclear? Nobody wants one of them in there back yard.

Its not ideal but i’m not up for sitting in the dark:you_crazy

Oh yea, and the power station had been tipped off the week before about this so sent most of the coal in a day early and just let one in on the day so they could catch the protesters.

what bunch of dickheads, if they wante to send a message in stad of being mugs they should have blown the fucker up

    well done climate camp.

If I lived there I would have gone and tried to fill a couple of sacks of coal before the BTP/network rail bods removed it, and hauled them away to store for winter :laugh_at:

whilst I don’t agree with the trend towards new open cast mining it is slightly safer for the poor bastards what have to get the stuff of out the ground and who are often forgotten about these days…

but the only real solution is consuming less energy and changing energy consumption patterns.

its a good thing though (particularly for me and even more so for damo666, Bio and Titch) that they didn’t try a similar stunt with fuel rods at Sizewell B :crazy_diz

Nothing like a bit of non violent direct action, good on ’em.

Fair play to them….. Gets them noticed

i cant help think what a waste of time …

i mean … its already been refined … you chucking it on back onto top soil isnt doing anyone any good …

in winter deny this geezers of warmth …
