these bloody call centres need banning. i’ve had enough of em :get_you::get_you::get_you::ar15::ar15:
Staff in Indian call centres are always really friendly and polite but they are always talking from a script which normally means if you actually have a problem which requires independent thought to sort out they are totally useless.
they aint got a clue about anything. there just robots i’m begining to start asking companys i use if they have indian call centres and if they have i wont use them. if you have any kind of problem you dont get advice or help. all you get is stress.
which is why for the most part they are rendered useless.
a lot of companies have brought back the call centres to England (often in Manchester, Lancashire, Sheffield and Scotland!) but outsourced the back office jobs to India – so what happens is the communications problems are hidden away (and cock ups still occur…)
the only solution is often to pay extra. I’ve noticed with BT broadband on the business tariff you get through to a British call centre (with more technological knowledge and flexibility) but an Indian one for residential broadband.
after spending 122 mins on the phone i finaly got the info i needed.
Who were you calling?
a credit card company to ask about which acount number to use when making a payment. I had to get a superviser to answer a simple question.
I pretty much always end up asking to speak to a manager. :head_bang
if you’ve not got loads of debts then vote with your feet and wallet and change your card provider (you may even get a cheap balance transfer!)
The Co-Op cards are administered by English people in somewhere near Wigan (at least thats what the chap told me, he sounded like he was from that part of Britain), MBNA cards usually have English customer service staff (but Indian cold calling sales staff).

i got an mbna with virgin i think and thats indian. my mobile with 3 is also indian, and my net is orange and also indian.
its just scab labor if you ask me, not the indian workers fault but managment who are just scabs in suits.

its alll market forces. and as you say those management here in Britain getting rid of the jobs overseas to keep them on the ladder –
I can’t speak for Virgin credit cards (mbna may only recently have taken them over as they just took over another credit card of mine), but both 3 mobile and Orange/France télécom (who own them) moved their call centres from Britain to India because it was the only way they could compete in the market by reducing prices to increase their market share…
That said I rarely deal with human beings when dealing with financial services, not so with so many secure (if you take sensible precautions) online services being around these days, last time I spoke to an “MBNA advisor” they were British
As for phones, O2 contract customer service appear to be either in the North or Scotland and I’m not sure if smile (co-op bank) has a policy regarding this but its definitely a British call centre I always deal with. I would expect the Co-Op to pick areas not too far from you given their history of being based in Rochdale, but I don’t know if they use offshored staff for the lower value credit cards.
I think for many businesses the the “cheaper” customer segments are given the offshored call centres whilst more well off customers get English staff with shorter queues.
unfortunately you get what you are willing to pay for and need to make a stand sometimes (I think you can transfer your phone number to a new provider)
Yup they have a very shiny new call centre in Glasgow just round the corner from where I used to live
