Mine is in the 11th month of the warranty so pretty lucky it didnt wait a while before blewing its lid!!!
About 2 months ago i called xbox support to say that my wireless adapter had stopped working (i did not have one)
I explained that the little green light had gone out and I could not connect to live. I told them that I had taken it to a friends to test on another console and still nothing, as well as testing the port on mine with a friends adapter which worked fine (all lies)
All they ask you for is the serial number on the console before they send out a brand new wireless adapter (rrp 49.99) :you_crazy
So if anyone is in need of one and thinks that £49.99 is a fucking joke for what it is then give this a try.
You do have to be pretty convincing and be able to describe the adapter, the person who dealt with me had to get his manager to aprove the replacement but i think this is standard protocol.
They then gave me an address to send the broken one too, which i obviously didnt!!
So of like me you think 50 squid is a joke for this then give it a try
