  • Did anyone watch this last night? i only caught the very end.

I know that christians will say that these preachers are extremeists who are misinterpreting/misusing the bible…but it still just gives me one more reason to hate religion!

It is not illegal to accuse a child of being a witch in the UK and members of the UK African community openly acknowledge the growing influence and powers of the pastors – that allegations of witchcraft are taking root here and something needs to be done.

“They’re brainwashing them with ideas that they can be witches or possessed with evil spirits. I think we’re finding it hard to see a way out because church leaders are such strong people and are people to look up to in our community.”

Moreover, with films promoting the idea of child witches being openly sold on London street markets and more extreme Nigerian preachers looking to set up churches in Britain and elsewhere, the problem will

    exactly.

Sadly I’m not at all surprised it happens in this country.

the reason this happens in the 21st century was because many hundreds of years ago evangelists and religious conservatives in Britain gained power and embedded that power deep into the state.

Not just within the government structures but ingrained into society.

Initially there was a bloody religious and civil war which was never quite resolved, elements of it persist (albeit with less overt violence) within British society to this day.

Even today in Britain any Christian sect, however extreme, is initially supported and welcomed by the Church of England and the Establishment provided it has Protestant leanings and preaches from the King James Bible (our Crown authorities still have the copyright to it in this country!)

The Church had near complete power over society until 1950 or so in this country. it has lost a fair bit of this since the 1960s onwards, but in recent times is trying to claw back power and reverse the gains of the permissive society in Britain. Hence the never-ending (and perhaps unresolvable?) conflict.

Wow – and I thought the Baptists who believe in KJV only and no pants for women were bad!!!!:yakk:

most Christians in the UK aren’t too bad but the harsher ones are always lurking in the background. The same goes for the followers other religions practised in this country. The 60s brought stuff like the Beatles, Queen but it also meant such things as drugs and people with other more liberal views getting more of a say in how society is run, which changed the UK drastically from the 1970s to the 1990s.

on a lighter note, in this country pants are underpants, not trousers.

If someone said there was a religion with “no pants for women” in England, even Cliffy would support it :laugh_at:

    oops! :crazy_dru

    Sorry – means – dresses only :laugh_at:

I’m glad you see my point…

Whether it means to or not, is real or not, religion causes a heck of a lot of suffering in this world!

Garry Denke has a lot of beliefs about the history and purpose of stonehenge. No offence, but it seems to me – from an athiests perspective – that you calling him strange is a little hypocritical.

unfortunatly that same thing can be said for most religions. surely you believe people can have the spirit of satan in them? not so different.

I think I’ll just be the one who says ‘bless you’ from now on …..

    Amy,

Look how Islam extremists is currently imposing their Shariah Law into Europe, and you’ll understand why we hate religion.

If you’re finding it difficult finding news articles, I’ll happily link them to you as they’ve never really gained media attention in fear of ‘insulting’ Muslims.

However, I shall tell you of an example that they’re imposing. And I’ll link you the news article about it if you wish. I just can’t be bothered now, because I’d have to trawl through stuff I’ve been before because I didn’t bookmark it.

There is currently a proposal right now in the UN in Geneva that is trying to make being critical of Islam and or Muslims an illegal offence.. obviously you can see the major implications of this, if the proposal is accepted.

And just one more closer in my country:

Currently Europes biggest mosque is being built in London, the problem is that this mosque is being placed directly next to the stadium that is being built for the 2012 Olympics in London. The mosque will be big enough for people to see it in the stadium and on the cameras, if the cameras look up for any particular reason or if any aerial shots are taken, the mosque will be displayed prominently.

Now if that was just that on it’s own, noone would think anything about it. More of, it just happened to be where the mosque is built. But the way that Islam is aggressively pushing it’s culture and laws into our legal system, our current legal system has no meaning if they’re integrated and Britain will be under Shariah law completely.

Shariah Law is one of the most backward legal systems there currently is, and here’s a few (more) examples of their laws (as I’m currently in another fervour of believing in the whole troubling thing of human rights and freedom of speech):

All women are to be dressed in bhurkas as showing naked flesh to a man is a perfectly acceptable reason to get raped. The man will not be punished for this, the woman will be stoned for adultery. (Much like the 13 year old girl in Somalia recently who got raped, told the authorities, and was subsequently stoned to death)
There is also a call by some Muslim men who have weight in their politics for Muslim women to wear a full veil, which basically means she’ll look like a cyclops who has a lopsided eye.
Women are inferior to Men in Shariah Law. Women cannot drive, have a job where they have to work alongside males, and they even cannot walk along the street unless a man is with them.. even if it’s a teenage boy, to not follow these rules.. well look them up.

Of course it’s not all about women, but the crimes against Womens rights are one of the greatest threats of Shariah Law, which should be reason enough for all Europeans who value freedom of speech and even basic human rights to unite and tell them where they can shove their Middle Aged backwater values, and themselves along with it.

One thing I would like to make clear however, is that I am not ‘racist’ against Muslims. It’s even impossible to be racist to a religion as a religion is not a race. And I am not ‘Islamophobic’ as that is again a made up word.. just look up the word, ‘phobia’.
Normal Muslims, who understand faith is a private personal belief, who know that imposing their beliefs onto a people from a completely stark different belief system, such as basic human rights and the freedom of speech would spark an outrage at some point, and a long bloody war will erupt.. maybe we’re at that point now anyway.

    Peace.

there is an even bleaker aspect to all this…

this is happening because in the UK the Church of England has so much power that it can influence laws. To avoid a backlash from the more diverse community of the UK since the 1950s, the C of E has worked with other religions to help them impose their laws (for instance some women in orthodox Jewish communities find it hard to get divorces because their religion has been able to use their religious laws). Now because Jewish people tend to do well in business and don’t get involved in stuff like politics (other than normal centre right politics) or UK based terrorism their activities are often overlooked even by the progressive media.

Things get even worse – people think the conservative Christians and Muslims are at war. They are not.

OK soldiers and civillians are being sacrificed in the hundreds over access to oil reserves, but its in fact a separate issue to do with capitalism rather than religion.

There are many incidents of conservative Christians from the USA (and some other nations) , Orthodox Jews and Muslims (mostly from the Middle East) voting together in the UN as a consensus group to remove various liberal freedoms. And unfortunately due to the oil wars the balance of power is shifting away from Europe to these nations.

    Quote:
The terms Christian right and Religious right are often used interchangeably, although the terms are not synonymous. Religious right can refer to any religiously motivated conservative movement, whether specific to one religion or shared across religious lines. For example, conservative Christians, Muslim social conservatives, and Orthodox Jews cooperate in national and international projects through the World Congress of Families and United Nations NGO gatherings.[1]

We can extend your post even more with the recent condemning statement by the Archbishop of Cantebury when he said we should be more tolerant and complacent of Shariah Law being implented into Britain.

UUUGH! :yakk: Just when it seems I’ve heard everything…..

O-D, I feel exactly the same way you do….Shariah Law IS backward…..they want us here in the US to be accepting as well – it’s not all just ‘kill the Muslims’.

    Figures it’d involve the U.N……

I’ve seen the movie ‘Not Without My Daughter’….HORRIBLE. I do not agree with any of it – but like you, I do NOT hate Muslims.
