  • I’ve been asked this time and time again about how I know to be 99.99% true that a higher spiritual power does not exist.. what if you’re wrong?

Now, I’m not an especially articulate person especially when under fire, and I’d usually just state the tired old mantras of Atheists which are logical but just been used once too many times.

Richard Dawkins has given an extremely satisfying answer for this question.

(Amy this is more directed at you since you seem to be our local (as the most expressant on the forum) believer of faith)

    As he says:

Anyone can be wrong about what they believe to be true. You happened to be brought up in a country that believes in Christianity, or at least Christianity is the majority.

Now, what if you were brought up in India? You would of course, believe in Hinduism as the truest religion, and you would believe that their version of god existed.
Same if you were brought up in Saudi Arabia, you would believe in Islam.
Same if you were brought up in classical Greece you would believe in Zeus and all their other gods.
Same if you were brought up in Central Africa you would believe in the great Juju up in the mountains.

My point is, by the sheerest chance you were born in a country of a Christian majority, and so there is no reason for believing in a Judeo Christian god just as much as believing the Juju up in the mountains.

    So, what if I’m wrong?
Hell, you’ve got just as good a chance, if not more so, of being wrong yourself.

    Peace.

I have to say I’m disappointed that Amy didn’t post her thoughts about this topic while she answered others then went offline, I was very much looking forward to see how she’d be able to answer it.

Hopefully she was too busy, and to answer in this thread would take a while.

Amy, I’m looking forward to reading your thoughts on this! :bounce_g:

Of course, I’m also eager to hear from anyone else what they think!

Please no more religion please pretty please, c’mon you got a geezer in pink pleading here. :laugh_at:

I never fought, it was people like Polygon who was ruining it.

Why can’t you just ignore the topic if you don’t like the content details?

          Muhahahahaha!

Aaaanyway, if you don’t like the debate then change it to just morality, because otherwise I don’t see the point in having a room for this if we’re being told to not discuss it.

I wanted to come up with constructive dialogue in this field, it’s not my fault or other peoples that it’s ruined by a few.:hopeless:

Hey O-D ….I’d be happy to chat w you, or anyone else, about this….just click on my IM icons….Im on AIM,Yahoo and MSN

I’ve even reached a SHAKY truce (we’re sorta civil to each other) with Polygon!

          Let’s give it a rest for awhile……
