We nelp manning stalls, fundraising and stewarding! If you’re up for it call: 02078339311…
Oh yes. I’ll be there with bells on!! Also don’t forget:
*Beware the return of Killer Coal*
Did you know that the government and a number of big energy companies are,
for the first time in 30 years, planning to build seven new coal-fired
power stations in Britain?
Sounds like a great idea, right? More energy? More jobs? More security?
Right?
*Wrong…*
Coal is the DIRTIEST, most INEFFICIENT fossil fuel there is: around 50% of
CO2 in the atmosphere from human activity has come from burning coal! Coal
emits 80% more carbon per unit of energy than gas and 29% more than oil.
To get an idea of how much CO2 a coal-fired power station emits, consider
that fact the Drax power station in Yorkshire emits more CO2 each year
than Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Mozambique – combined!
Coal won’t secure our future energy – it is a finite resource, just like
oil, and spending billions on infrastructure to burn it, rather than on
renewable energy sources that we have in never-ending abundance, like wind
and wave energy, is madness!
*What will coal do for us?*
Investing in coal today will ensure that we never meet the targets the
government has set for reducing emissions. It will effectively lock us in
to 30 or 40 more years of fossil fuels.
It will sacrifice the incredible opportunity there is now for new jobs in
the renewable sector, sacrifice our chance to build a cleaner, safer
future for our families, and devastate the lives of millions around the
world, many who are already beginning to suffer the disastrous effects of
climate change.
According to the World Health Organisation, 150,000 people die each year
from the direct effects of climate change, and thousands more are made
environmental refugees. Climate change is likely to kill over 180 million
people this century in sub-Saharan Africa alone. That’s more deaths than
ten 9/11s a week. If we don’t dramatically cut emissions now, then
widespread flooding, famine, and destruction will become inevitable.
The only reason the government is going ahead with these plans is that
they are still pandering to the interests of big business. But we’ve all
just seen where government acting in the interests of business, rather in
the interests of the people gets us!

all bands are playing for expenses only and all door profits are going to CCC. Last year was amazing and attracted a capacity crowd of 500.
We will be opening immediately after the end of the march in central london, offering somewhere warm and comfortable to relax on sofas after a hard days marching and campaigning,
to reflect on the day’s activities, socialise, eat, unwind and have a dance to some of the best protest bands in the country.
